For me, one of the most enlightening aspects of the Emily threads has been learning of all the fashion experts we have here on AZ. I'm watching the TAR interview and I'm sure you guys have at least as much to say about how these two fine champions attired themselves as you do about Emily's choices.

I think Efren's choice of matching his fabulous dungarees with a striped shirt showed daring, but I feel that perhaps vertical stripes would be slimming.

Shane went with his classic statement of checkered Bermuda shorts.

Emily could do well to study these two champs.

Thanks

Kevin

I will say that I think that how many of the men dress is not good for the game.

The PGA does not allow it's tour players to play in shorts & tee shorts. The caddies could not even wear shorts until Tiger put up a stink about it.

The TAR matches are like playing in someone's basement. No offense. I'm just saying that the players don't feel like they sre going over to someones house don't care or think about how many will be paying to see them play. Many don't give a thought to the fact that they could market the game just by how they dress.

I'm not saying that they have to wear tuxedoes or coats & ties but long pants & a collar shirt would be nice.

Just my $0.02.

It seemed to me that Emily spent some real effort on the her appearance for her matches, yet met some pretty staunch criticism for her attire here at AZ.

I was hoping the answer for her would have been as simple as thrift store shopping for some dungarees and a polo shirt.

Thanks for the chuckle.

I think Emily's attire was totally okay. I only questioned her playing in 4" or more heels if that is not how she plays or practices normally.

Maybe playing in bare feet wearing Daisy Dukes & a tied up red checkered shirt with her hair in pig tails would have gotten her in less trouble with some of the guys.

OMGWTF practiced and played in heels. I assume Emily does the same thing, but while we are on the subject, why question her footwear at all? I mean what footwear choice would Efren have to make before you called it into question?

Kevin

It's an interesting question actually. One of the first things I noticed about the IPT was the dress code for all participants. My opinion was and is that it was a postive move on the part of the organization. The billiard tournaments have a very strict policy on attire and I see no problem with it at all. Personally I like to dress well and always have which brings up a funny comment my uncle made to me recently. He's 86 and was very successful in his life starting with absolutely nothing and no father. He became quite wealthy and is retired in an ocean front home enjoying watching the sun rise over the Atlantic Ocean. I was visiting and got up in the morning with blue jeans on, he looked at me puzzled so I asked him what was on his mind. He said "you aren't wearing those are you" looking at my blue jeans? I asked why and he said only poor people wear those! I was stunned, so we sat and had a discussion about the perception of clothes and the statement they make about a person. I learned how his generation valued the way a gentleman was supposed to dress. He's a great guy and I respect him immensely so I changed into some dress slacks when we left the house later on..

Kevin,

I have shoes that I will not wear to play any serious pool.

Earl almost forfeited a match because he showed up in the wrong shoes & had to go back up to his hotel room to change shoes.

No other athletes play their sport wearing their street shoes.

My concern would be the change of hip height that would require a different bend with a different neck angle, etc. if that is not how she normally plays. If that's what she normally plays in, then I guess it would be okay. But, I'd try a flatter, more solid shoe if I were her though.

It all starts from the ground up. The last thing many good athletes do is re-tie their shoes before the game actually starts. I do it when I want to tell myself to get really serious.

Regards,

Hey Shane, hey Efren, some girl on AZ doesn't like what you guys are wearing. What can you say about that?

Ooops sorry wrong thread I thought this was for the TAR podcast.

When are they going to wake up! I was waiting for somebody to bring this subject up here in the forums. And I mean, We want the game to be magnified in the public's eye. We need to insist that we look it, act it ,in a professional manner. Women have no problem looking professional. Ask yourself what image do you want the game to portray ? Then lets act on it.

Let's see some pictures of what you wear playing pool

I'm also of the opinion that the pros trying to look nicer in public, especially if a match is being streamed or recorded, would help the pool industry. All it would take would be dockers, a polo and no sneakers.

Fatz

I think vertical stripes and a checkered past is suitable attire for a gambling match.

What Do I Wear.....

Let's see some pictures of what you wear playing pool
Iv'e always tried to look my best when i'm competing. That's just who I am. I will admit there are times when I do play in a T-Shirt. I feel more comfortable. But I will Tell you this, When I'm competing in a big Tournament, I want to look good. I guess it has to do with Total preparation to go to battle. If I look good ,I feel Good, ALL POSITIVE!. And if it's a big tournament with a lot of champions, a lot of people tend to flock to that match. Well looking professional and playing good like a professional seems to fit. I have beaten a lot of champions in my pool years. Whether it's been gambling ,or in a big tournament, It feels better when you look better. Anyway, maybe someday i'll post my picture up here. Meanwhile when you get a chance check my company out. We specialize in Billiard Apparel.

I think Scott Frost and Efren are the same size. I think it would be nice if Scott could outfit Efren in some red flashy Basketball sportswear for a challenge match.

Along the same line of thought.....wouldn't it be nice if Kim Davenport could assist Alex Pagulyon with a hair style of Kim's choice?

Most of the high-caliber tournaments I have been to, the men are required to wear collared shirts and leather shoes. No shorts, no jeans, no T-shirts.

For regional tournaments, I don't see anything wrong with wearing shorts and T-shirts.

I always did believe it was unfair that the lady pros could compete in halter tops, sandals, and whatever garb they desired in professional tournaments, yet the men had to wear long-sleeved shirts and leather shoes. In this regard, there is gender discrimination with the dress code.

I think if pro players dress similar to golfers, with collared Polo shirts, slacks (not jeans), and athletic shoes, it's fine for playing pool. When in competition, your feet should be comfortable. I don't see the advantage of wearing leather shoes for pro players if it is only for looks. The pool player should be comfortable so they can concentrate on their game.

Shows what I know.

I guess how the male players dress is as much as an issue as how the females may.

I should have known, everything is an issue here in AZ Land.

Thanks

Kevin

All serious players know about shooter pants.

They aren't sold as such, they may be labelled at Walmart as "windpants" or "warmups" or something.
But really they're a way for pool players to identify the best shooters in the room.

One stripe means an APA 5 or 6.
Two stripes means a real pro, 7 at least.
Three stripes means you need probably the last 2.
Four+ stripes, or even three fat stripes, you need games on the wire + the wild 7.

Be aware of hustlers who try to sneak in wearing less than 3 stripes.

Simply amazing. Love it.

Just in case you were mistaken: Golf isn't more popular than pool because the pros adhere to a strick dress code. Golf is more popular because more people play it. That's it.

Gone are the days of the average man wearing a suit as his defacto choice of clothing for public life. Likewise, gone are the days of billiards played in tuxedos and suits.

That's a great plug for your company.

But anyone can write a few words with any number of fonts, stick it on a polo shirt and try to sell it like you're making a fashion change for the better in the billiard industry.

I don't see what's so professional about your web page, design or placement of the embroidery on your clothing. How is it any better or promote pool more than the $10 American Eagle shirts Efren wears all the time?

Kevin

I'm pretty sure that if Efren showed up in 4 inch heels, it would be called into question.. Fair is fair, after all.
