Az Get Together

JH,
I guess I'll have to disagree with your assessment here. What are you, some kind of girly-man...afraid of a little competition from a poker player?????

I would be in favor of Keith playing (but he could wear a disguise or something to make you feel more secure).

I like the way you think. That's a great idea! :p

I had a crazy idea yesterday. There are so many good players who post on here, why not have an annual get together, with an All Around tourney thrown in. I'm thinking $100 entry fee into each division, maybe One Pocket, 9-Ball and Banks. No added money, we just play for the entry fee money. Keep it fun but with a little purse to go after.

I thought about Colorado since it is centrally located. It doesn't have to be there though. If Jim McDermott liked it, we might be able to do it at his poolroom in Tulsa. And he can play too. He plays good by the way.

I see it as a big pool party, with some spirited competition thrown in. I'd love to meet all the good players who post here. I suspect I will recognize most of you. Ironman, Blackjack and Island Drive are already down for this. Who else?

Okay, tell me what you think.

Someone said Magoo's in Tulsa. I have a better idea. (Not knocking Magoo's) We could see if Mr. Ken Ken Quarters would let us do this at his Q-Spot in Tulsa. It''s no-smoking, no alcohol, which would really help those who have allergies or need to stay away from the alcohol, BUT... there is smoking just outside the door and a pretty well-known bar next door for your fix, if you really have to have that drink.

Or, there's Sandites Billiards, in Sand Springs, OK, just next to Tulsa. They have alcoholic beverages and a special room behind a huge window for smokers, so they can watch the games while they smoke, but it's not interfering with vision or folks with allergies.

Just a couple of thoughts tossed out there. We can also take our granddaughter to either of these places (she has smoke allergies) and let her play. She loves playing pool and watching it. Competition like that would really get her attention.

Yes, I'm one of those folks with real bad allergies. I found out I was severely allergic to 2nd hand smoke about 12-15 years ago, but we were smoking outside, so I kept smoking, until I wound up having heart attacks and stents in my heart, etc.. I'd love to go to an AZB event, but whether it's in a no smoking zone would make a lot of difference for me. I know a lot of ex-smokers who prefer non-smoking atmosphere, also... not because they're allergic, but because it just stinks.

This sounds like fun. You should set it up in Vegas. Everyone loves Vegas.

Not me. I don't like Vegas. TOO busy for me and way over on one side of the country. Everything is in Vegas.

This event needs to have it's own place... not too far from one side of the country or the other, for those who have to drive the trip, since gasoline is so high. Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas... right in the middle of the country.

I can definitely make Tulsa one weekend (relatively short drive from Fort Worth, TX).

Other than that, why not pick a few major airport hubs for cheaper airfare? Chicago comes to mind, as does Vegas. I'm not sure where on the East Coast would be good since I rarely fly that way.

Great idea! Hope it pushes through!

Just a thought here, such a gathering would
also be cool the next time you're in Manila, Jay.
The friendly get-together could be for all AZers based
in the Philippines.

:)

I'm up for that!!!! I plan on heading to PI soon.......:)

How Many???

The big question is how many of us would be there? That could make a big difference in where this thing should be held. If we'd have 25 folks, just about anywhere would do. If we'd have 200 folks, that definitely needs to be a much bigger place with a good number of pool tables and HOPEFULLY a good reputation.

If we were to do this in the Tulsa area, how many people would come to it? Never mind. I'll try to start a new thread with a poll in it. That should give us at least a good start of how many would be there. (I've never done a poll before, so bear with me while I try to do this.)

i don't care for Ve. but as long as it's my own, i do like gas (and i'm on a "activa" yogurt diet now)

excellent idea jay. i'd go fart and play anywhere, work permitting.

I would travel North or South. That is, I would drive to NORTH Tampa or SOUTH Tampa.

( as far as I'm concerned, East and West are flavors, not directions.... imo ) :)

I think this is a wonderful idea... unfortunately, everyone seems to only want to go if it's in their hometown. People have to be willing to travel, otherwise no matter which location is selected, only the people that live there will show up. I'm in Miami, so I know that I would have to travel no matter what. (and I STILL think it's a great idea!) Come on guys, let's be realistic... I personally think that not only should we be looking for a "central" location (central means in the middle of the country... not what's closest to where you live!) AND a place that has plenty of things to do, so that it could be considered a nice vacation as well.
