I arrived last night to find that there was a slight mixup in the room reservations… So, they put me up across the street in the Executive Inn. It was a PITA to get my stuff over there, but in the end, I’ve already found positives in it. I could stand to do more walking, so this guarantees it. They have a free shuttle, but with all the people in the tournaments and such, they’re too busy and I’m too impatient.
The usual suspects are rolling in for the tournament, for the AZBilliards room, and for the action room. I heard that Keith & JAM aren’t going to make it this year. That’s disappointing on several levels. But, I’ve seen many familiar faces and have met some new ones. As always, it’s nice to put a face to the name. OTOH, cuz I have CRS, I won’t remember their names, their faces, and I sure as hell won’t remember that the two go together.
I played a little (very little) in the AZ/1Pocket.Org room. I didn’t bother bringing my stick from my room, so I borrowed one from Paul (oh curses I can’t remember his username. I’ll edit this when I find out today. Sorry {edit: Paul is Ummagumma, looks like he's 17, but is actually 40!!}). I tried his McDermott, and I quickly was reminded how much McDermotts and I don’t get along. So, I switched to his J&J Jump Cue and had a grand time with it. Apart from the sound, I had no problems shooting with it, though I didn’t do any power shots. I probably would have jumped the cueball into the hallway. Not that I couldn’t accidentally do that now. And anyone who thinks you can't spin the ball with a jump cue... if an everyday hack like me can, anyone can.
For the woe is me stuff, we played doubles and the one or two times I broke, the yips didn't want to leave me alone on my vacation. Scott Lee made the "what the hell was that? The Allen Hopkins break?" comment. I wish I could tell him so he could fix it. I doubt it's possible.
But, the tables (two of them in the room) played perfectly as expected. For those wondering how two fit, it's magic. The room is exactly the same size, no walls were knocked down, yet two tables fit there EASILY. I think it's magic.
More to come for sure, but I'm tired. I need to go to bed.
