I'm right-handed, but lately I have seen a whole heap of left-handed players, of all skill levels. It's been my, perhaps over generalized, understanding that left-handed people are apt to be more creative, use of imagination. "Lefties have a natural stroke," I've heard old timers say....

So, I'm curious. Aren't you?

My question is if you are right handed which eye dominate are you? That is really more important than which hand is dominate. Most people do not realize that many people who who are right or left hand dominate may not be like eye dominate. This fact more than any other will effect Skill Level, Stroke, and creativity if they are not taught to use the correct eye for aiming.

Im right handed but blind in my right eye. I shoot right handed but see left eye only.

cool im the first to vote lefty,

and ive noticed alot of lefties too. It might be that its the same amount of lefites youve always known its just more obvious because
you see them shoot.

I`m right handed in everything(golf, casting a fishing pole, writing, darts ect) except pool.I shoot lefthanded and use jump cue left handed, but I shaft jump with my right hand on the end of the shaft and hold bridge with my left hand and stroking with my right hand on the cuebutt. Not sure why.
I actually have a decent stroke shooting right handed but just don`t feel comfortable.

i've left handed in most things that i do so being a lefty player was just natural for me...plus left handed pool cues cost less!

LOL!

Maybe I should have polled eye dominance as well. Oh well, I'm right hand/right eye dominant.

I always think an "opposite" eyed player looks strange down on a shot. I guess it just shows how important it is to adjust to what consistently works best for you.

Hello,

I'm right handed at everything except Pool and Archery. I'm also left eye dominant, but I center the cue under my chin. I've been playing for 4-5 years and have been told I have a nice stroke. I know it could always be better and continually work on it.

Aww man you definitely should have polled hand & eye-dominance combos! I'm right handed but left-eye dominant. I was ignorant to this fact and it drove me nuts for the first 2 months I was playing (because I naturally imitated what I saw and sighted down the right eye). It was eventually pointed out to me by a more experienced friend who grew up playing snooker and noticed telltale patterns in how I was (not) hitting balls.

Whenever I teach my friends who have never played the basics I ALWAYS start by checking their eye dominance.

For a long long time I sighted down my shots in a funny way cuz of the opposite eye dominance. One day about a year ago my neck was sore and I just aimed with the cue balanced between my eyes so I wouldn't be in pain. I ended up shooting great that day! I've been aiming that way ever since.

I'm fairly certain that as I played more my aiming got more accurate and my eyes shifted to snooker style cue-splitting-the-face aiming even though my body stayed in the same position. For a while before the accidental discovery, my aim randomly degenerated after being great for several months, which is what makes me believe in this theory.

Being opposite eye-dominant can also give you a "weak side" of the table, as shooting from certain parts of the table compromise the odd-head aiming position.

At any rate, as you can probably tell, I am RELIEVED to be over that problem.

I write right handed, but play pool & throw a ball left handed.

I'd likely be left handed on everything, but they pretty much forced being right handed in school when I was a kid. :frown:

I use my right hand in everything, except pool.

I shoot left-handed, use the bridge right handed, jumps lefthanded, but hit better with the "dart-jump" righthanded...

I sometimes practise one-pocket playing left-hand vs right-hand, lefty gives 12-4 in handicap. Right now right-hand owes $ 200 to left-hand, so lefty won't play this game anymore till payment is done...

Sounds like lefty wants more weight...

so "he" can get even.

I'm very right handed.... but very poor right eye vision, play pool and shoot guns lefty.

Which Side

I've a very poor record against lefties. Either I can't get them to play or I can't beat them. Crafty rascals !

I'm a true lefty...and yes when I was little I had some old timers say I had a natural stroke. But I do swing righty (baseball, golf,etc.). I guess thats why I can play righty when I have to. I think being able to play with both hands is a big advantage and can be a little intimidating sometimes too! ;)

I read an old Mizerak book a while back and he could switch hit too!

I too was forced to be a righty from grade school. About 15 years ago I got into a really nasty dirt bike accident which screwed up my right shoulder really bad and couldn't pull my right handed bow back. I went out and bought a left handed bow and after 5-6 shots with it, I found I wasn't closing my left eye to shoot. Then I did the test and found out I should have been a lefty all along. I now do everything equally well (including shooting pool) except for writing. Comes in quite handy as I don't find myself using the bridge quite as much as when I was just shooting right handed. Happy Holidays to all!

an oddity

Off topic a bit but people talking about doing things with either hand brought this to mind. I once knew someone that could write equally well right handed or left handed. The strange thing is that he wrote backwards, right to left perfect mirror image, left handed.

I play left. I write right. I bat (baseball) right or left. I use the rest right handed. If I gamble and win, I will take the money left or right handed (which ever hand is closer to the cash). If I just beat 2 guys at the same time, I can take cash with both. I seem to lose mobility in both arms when I lose though; both left and right handed, I hate to give cash.
