Azb Forums Tournament????

Hey guys & Gals, I was just wondering is there a chance for us all to put an AZB Forums challenge together? I know there are alot ifs ands and buts about this. Handicapping, venue etc. However would anyone be interested in lets say $100.00 entry meeting somewhere in the middle of the U.S.A and playing an event? Obviously as long as the handicap system was to the majority's liking? This is just an idea at this point and I have no idea if it is even realistic but if it were to happen we have to start somewhere right? it would also give us all a chance to meet each other in person. Let me know your thoughts,
 
The "middle of the USA" is still a thousand miles from me.

How about we organize local, state, and then regional events (like a tiered qualifying system). The entry fees go to pay for the hotel / air fare for the winners at each level... and eventually to a national level.

So say I play in the NYC AzB tournament and win. Maybe the I and the top x-number of finishers go to a Tri-State AzB tournament. The top players there go to the a larger regional event, and then a national thing.

It'd take a lot of work to hash out the details, but I think that may be the only real chance of something like this happening.

The other option is to wait until January of 2009, and host a tournament at the DCC.

Sounds like a great idea,but the only possiblility would be the B.C.A. OR V.N.E.A. in vegas as that would be probably where most of us would be at one place or one venue at one time.

Think Phoenix Arizona in August would be the place to have it outdoors.

That may be the way to go. Like you said that would take alot of work and a primary volounteer from each area to take it on at the local level. But then the the AZers from AZ would have something or someone to root for and give the AZers in Florida some hassle and the other way also. Lots of work though. It may be easier doing East, West and central maybe. Thata way it will be a trek for some but not that much. If you are in Hong Kong you need alot of $$ or really think you can win :)

Cowboy, I think the balls may begin to melt and cause complaints.

I think its a great idea, and would be more than willing to help.

Putting together qualifying events in each state would not be hard with the use of new forums for each state.

DCC would be a great place to have the final event, as well as Vegas!

Uh... it's not too hard to figure out who the top players on here are. There are still some pros here. I think the issue here is more of who the better middle guys are. But that would only create more woofing.

Neil, the venue and organization I think with helkp will work but I think for all to enjoy and have a shot the weight is the big issue. Also I would like to have as many AZers as possible at the final and I worry that if the finals were in Vegas or at DCC how many would show up to watch it and support it? Let me know your thoughts on that . We need as many as possible to make it happen and work for all concerned. Any reps for cue makers etc who would want to help with some sponsorship or product to raffle off to get the prize money expenses bonus $$ etc.

Maybe I need to just put a real game plan together to make it happen and then post it and see who would be in. I will need help from a number of people and advice as I go as far as the weight as each state and organization has multiple rating systems.

I like this idea. It seems that most of us on here are at this tournament and they always have a room for AZ there. You could work out a 2 hour time frame like the do at the US Open so that everyone would know when they are suppose to play. If i can help in anyway please let me know, I would be willing to throw in a stroketrainer for a door prise, raffle or part of the winnings to help with things. Just let me know. Doug
 
This Idea has been kicked around for while... and nothing really ever comes out of it... but hey.. keep throwing it against the wall and sooner or later it is bound to stick...


I would be willing to put together a European qualifier..... we do have quite a few East Europe guys running around here...

Just let me know if this thing ever kicks into action, and the Border Billiards crew will be happy to help out in whatever way we can!:cool:
