I think it would be incrementally beneficial to the growth of the new corporate affiliation and definitely to the continued growth of the sport (and its sponsors) to have a mechanism or dedicated regular space where entertainment industry executives and celebrities would be frequently interviewed about their widely-known lifelong interest in our sport as frequent players and tournament spectators.

All manner of interesting projects, sponsorships, and productive relationships would inevitably emerge from this in very positive, serendipitous ways not presently existing or available. The cost-to-reward metric is off-the-charts favorable to this idea IMO.

Moderately show "biz" connected folks like Eric (Fatboy) and yourself (Mike) -- one might assume -- and a few other AZBers (Jay Helfert? Mike Sigel?) would make excellent interviewers/facilitators for this regular feature somewhere within the "air time" and public face of your new affiliation and governance of it.

This is a very interesting idea. I'm not sure if it's an Accu-Stats idea or maybe something more suited to AzB.

I’ve never understood AccuStats as an offering to consumers. Is it mostly an archive in escrow? I’ve done the Vimeo thing. I’ve seen some recent YouTube releases. I’ve ordered a DVD once (to have it go on YouTube within a month of it arriving). But I’m just not understanding comprehensively what the marketplace offering of AccuStats is for me.

A few decades ago if you wanted to see a match, you were either there or ordered the VHS tape. Now with the free streams, YouTube, Facebook, etc... there are many events and games you can find without effort. However the new events are very lacking in personality of the players and commentators past a few exceptions. In the early tapes you did not see 30 European and Asian robots shooting the same perfect studied and trained stroke and pattern play, you saw 30 different players with 30 different styles. And the commentating I don't think has been matched since with the exception of Jeremy Jones and maybe a couple of others, Boyes is pretty good and fun to listen to. Nothing like the interaction between Hall, Grady and Incardona back in the day though, some of course is due to the new political correct climate where everyone has to be on guard to make sure they don't accidentally offend someone.

That is the long term goal. It will take some time to get all of the tapes digitized into the proper format though.

I have like 300+ of them already in MP4 and AVI format, what you need? LOL I helped a friend convert his collection to digital so he can stream it to the smart TVs in his place.

I'm sure you can get a bunch of volunteers to digitize the things from scratch also, just need the source content. I'd like to know if the original film is available or if everything is done from a VHS copy. What I have is mostly from VHS so the quality is a bit lacking in some of them, especially the audio.

This is fantastic news! I remember seeing my first Accu-stats video 24 years ago while stationed at Hurlburt Field, FL. I turned my dad onto them and he ordered zillions of "tapes". I don't think Pat could have chosen a better person to ensure his creation continues to thrive, well into the future.

Give it some creatively focused thought, Mike, and I'm certain that you and the indicated individuals (and other willing assistants of your choice) will collectively arrive at a perfect and productive way to apply it to your several enterprises -- to the ultimate benefit of yourselves and all us worldwide who are devoted to the sport.

Arnaldo ~ Several age-old gems of relevant sagacity come to mind: "When you teach, you learn." and "When you give, you receive." I'm absolutely certain that many ardent pool players in the entertainment industry will immediately sense the multi-faceted good that will come from their participation (and implicit approval) of the intent of the interviews. Their own career success amply proves the degree of their marketing savvy.

All of the tapes are in Super Betacam format. I think the players that are needed for those are pretty rare.

Most are only sold as is for parts. If the DVD catalog was done directly from the original tapes it should be in as good of a quality as you can get, if they copied say a VHS tape on a standard home VHS player to a DVD (there are decks that do that for you) then the quality could be better dealing with the originals. If you want I can send you a disk with what I have already done, which is simply taking the videos he had, and converting them to same resolution AVI and some with MP4, so it's like 480 resolution for most videos.

I appreciate the offer, but I think I probably have something pretty close to what you have. I have .img files for every DVD in the catalog. Pat assures me though, that the quality on the DVDs is not what we would want for something like YouTube or Vimeo.

Great News, I've pestered Pat in the past about buying an old match of a couple of players that I have played against. He said some day that it would be digitized and put on the you tube channel. So I might as well pester you about it. ;) It is Dave Matlock vs. Greg Fix. It wasn't necessarily a good match (based on the score) with elite players but it has a couple of players that aren't seen very often. Anyway, I'm glad that the archive is in good hands.

Yes those DVDs I used were looking pretty much like the VHS tapes, down to the tracking lines on some of them. Hope you can find a player for the original videos to convert from there.

Pat has the proper player, so that won't be the problem. The problem will be finding the time to get them all done. :)

I am sure you will have no issues finding tech minded pool player volunteers for that job. Heck, if those things are in the NJ area where Pat does the arena in Sandcastle I'd take a few day of vacation and drive down with several laptops to do the encoding :) I'm serious, you sit me in a room with that player and a coffee or a scotch I'll work on it, stuff like that is fun to me. I'll even bring my own scotch LOL

I'd even bring my son to help but the poor kid is working 10-12 hr days basically running a pool hall/bar so doubt he will have time to go anywhere.
