Meet and greet I guess

It's too bad the location of the room is so inconvenient. If I remember correctly, there should have been someplace a lot closer to the show that could be made available for this. Maybe they need more advance notice for a better spot, like NOW, for next year?

Im going with Meet and Greet to I guess.

This is my first year at the expo and I am going to take everyone's word that there is so much going on that I wont want to miss it.

Thanks for all the hard work. It is appreciated.

Mike made some name tags for last year. Unfortunatly, they never got to the designated person who was to pass them out. I will see what I can do to come up with something special for us..

Barbara~ I hope he sees you a lot. He managed to get 5th (I think, it was some place high up there out of like 1200 players) 3 years ago.

For the money, the meet and greet would be good. But what am I saying. I'm stuck at the Tournament desk for the duration so feel free to come up and say hi!

You could also arrange a meet and greet at one of two pool rooms close to VF - Markley Billiards in Norristown or Rack M Up in Frazer, both less than 15 minutes away. Markley will probably be open 24 hours, and Rack M Up used to have a "Midnight Madness" tourney during the Expo.

Barbara

I think it took us 45 minutes to do the 15 minute ride to Markley's last year. lol. Markley's had a late night tournament too, that's what we arrived too late for.

Yes as I recall there were several function rooms along the long corridor that were pretty close to the expo. Either they were filled (which they weren't last year), or they wanted to hold them in hopes of something better coming along.

Hey Tims,

I'm down with the moral majority. The daily meet n greet is probably the most practical, but I'll kick in for the room if that's what everyone wants to do.

Here's another thought for a meeting place-

The Sheraton, which is about a half mile up the road, has a lounge, with a bar(this is important for some people :p ) and 2 bar boxes. This might be a good place to have a semi-private meeting spot.

I like the Sheraton idea since thats where I will be staying anyhow :)
I would imagine getting on those bar boxes would be a pain though since there will be other valley forge goers going there.

im in!

ok, this is my view on it. it may be in the radisson instead of the scanticon, but what hotel is everybody staying at??? most likeky the radisson. second, it is hard to get on a table until about midnight and thats $10 per person to play all night. so, it would cost you $30 to play pool (only late at night) for thurs. fri. and sat. now, if we pitch in only $30pp we only need roughly 45 ppl. i can tell you right now that im good for 4 ppl, so that $120.... lets get the ball rolling :). the only thing that i want to make sure of is the hours that the room will be available to us. if its going to be from lets say noon until 3 or 4 am, then lets do it. also, we can have our meet and greets at the room, which would save money on da booze B.Y.O.B....lol. ok, have your ppl call my ppl, and ill talk to da guy about da ting. joey

I'm at the Sheraton too, but i think somewhere at the expo would be easier for everyone else.

Count me in for Meet & Greet!

Meet & Greet when you have the time seems like the way to go.....I mean I have to and want to work it in between all the other stuff that goes on there...playing in the Open Amateur....watching Men's Pros......watching all the bickering/gambling on the Action Tables....playing in the tournaments at Markley's Billiards.....watching March Madness.....partying......jamming in the room with the iPod portable Bose system.......watching March Madness....partying.........exploring all the vendors..........partying......watching March Madness...........man I'm getting antsy already.......hope I can have some of you up to my room to party....hang out......etc.......I'm really looking forward to it this year........GO STEELERS

How about twice a day

Meet and Greet is nice; however, in my opinion, 2 to 5 could be a bit tough for those who have to work a booth or play matches.

Richard

Maybe a 2-4 time span for anyone interested and again at 9-11. Maybe some stick on tags to identify people walking around who are members. I agree if the room is very far, most people will not go looking for it. Also, anyone not going can still kick in some $$$$$ and buy us some beer.LOL Sam

Twice a day is something that had also crossed my mind. We only came up with the 2-4 idea because the restaurant/bar will be busier after that time with people eating dinner. We could definitely shoot for twice a day.

Don't you think anyone not going should have to kick in for beer? I mean that's a big expense by itself. It's just a thought. I mean, afterall, we want our group to be well represented.

Yes, anyone NOT going... that means all you folks that are registered members here need to send me beer money! I've seen Satman put 'em away.... this is a costly group when it comes to drinking! :p

is my post about getting the room getting passed over?? $30 pp isnt that much, and thats with only 45ppl
Not at all. I'm just sitting back waiting to see what the others say. ;) I'm going to go with the majority.

$30pp isn't all that much, you're correct. The issue is that it is in an area where no one will frequent it. The room at the DCC was right off the main hallway and at times it was like a ghost town. This room is going to be a long ways away. Valley Forge isn't the cheapest wkend for a lot of us & people might not be as eager to spend that $30 on something that they might not ever use. (The rooms at the DCC were $69 a night. Here they're $121). I think the majority of people would only stop by the room if they were staying in the Radisson and they were on their way up to bed. I already know that due to the location, the only time I would stop by would be sometime after 1am. There's too much other stuff going on that's a solid half mile on the other side. That's JMO. I will go with whatever the majority might be come Sun night. :)

I think the idea of the AzBilliards room is a great one, but I agree with what many of the posters have stated. The SBE environment is somewhat different than the DCC, and whether you are a railbird like me, a tournament competitor, a vendor who needs to be at their booth, it will be difficult to coordinate the logistics, even for the meet and greet.

For the tournament competitor, one doesn't know WHEN their match times are, as they will change throughout the tournament, depending on how far they advance in the charts.

The vendor who has a booth would have to find somebody to take his/her place if they were to attend a meet and greet. It's possible to do so, but it might be inconvenient to some.

Railbirds have more flexibility. Many folks enjoy moseying up and down the vendor booths. This is the BIGGEST pool expo in the world, and that is what is attractive to those looking for new pool products.

If AzBilliards name tags are made, that will be very nice, I think. Last year, I was the designated soul to get the AzBilliards name tags and disseminate them to the appropriate parties. Niels Feijen's girlfriend and myself went to the front desk of the Scanticon at least 5 times every single day looking for them. Due to a wrong zip code on the package, the AzBilliards name tags did not arrive at the Scanticon until after the SBE had concluded. When I returned home, I received a phone call from the Scanticon asking me what to do with them.

AND then there is the InsidePOOL suite, complete with open bar and munchies, which seemed to be quite busy 24/7. I saw quite a few AzB-ers when I visited it in the Radisson, and it was kind of neat to see the players, industry members, railbirds, fans, et cetera, all in one room having a good time.

I never did get to go to the meet and greet last year because of my counterpart competing in the pro event at the same time it was supposed to happen. It is logistical scenarios like this which may make it difficult to pin down a time. JMHO, FWIW!
