AzBilliards Gold Mine: National Billiard News

AzBilliards has just announced that they will be posting up scanned version of the National Billiard News. For those who have not heard of this pool newspaper, it was at one time the oldest pool print media in existence.

I cannot wait to pore through these. I have 1975 through 1985, which I purchased about 10 years ago. I love the articles. Many of the journalists are names that are familiar to us today.

That's just a snippet of what is in store for 2014 from AzBilliards. Read all about it [pun intended] ---> A Very Happy New Year from AzBilliards.

I can't wait for this to come forth. Bravo! :clapping::clapping::clapping:

Here is what the cover of one of the National Billiard News looks like. Inside, there's many pool-related articles. In fact, more pool in this paper than ads, thank goodness. Lots of good reading.

Snipe hunt: Just guesstamating, but I think in late 1977 there would have been a NBN issue with coverage of the US 14.1 Open and the BCA National 8ball Championship that were held together at a hotel in downtown Dayton, Ohio. In whatever issue that is there's a photo of Steve Mizerak, Sr. shooting. Standing right behind him is a young guy looking at a shot who occasionally posts here.

Really nice photo of long gone Edgar "Shake and Bake" White from Motown on that cover. The BN used to be published in suburban Detroit.

I still have BN copies from 73 through 88 packed away in a box. If anyone is interested in these, you can PM me an offer.

I have a few months missing in mine 1975-to-1985 collection.

Just to put a price out there, I paid $381 for the ones I have from those years. I bought them directly from National Billiard News folks before they sold the company. I can't remember who they sold them to, but it's another print media entity.

I need to get mine in chronological order. Right now, they're all spread out with little multicolored sticky notes on them. They are a great resource to pool-related topics. They certainly have helped me. :)

The one gripe I have is some of the tournament coverage did not provide precise dates. So they would be reporting about a tournament that took place in the previous months, but the reader does not know when.

Now I have to go dig that one up to find out who this is.

In the words of Arnold, "I'll be back."
