I've tried a bunch of layered tips and I see no difference between them and a Le Pro or Triangle except about $20 or so,maybe less for the budget layered tips.
So for me it's Le Pro or Triangle.
I did Le Pro's for years. The one thing i hated about them was the incredible inconsistency of them tips. When you had a good one it was golden, on the other hand if it was a bad tip it was crap. I'd probably go through 3-4 tips before i found a good one. It was the reason i learned how to change tips.

The one thing i found good with layered tips is the consistency. I was using moori 3's. The 4's stink. So getting back into the game i went by amazon recommendations and started using Kamui tips. What's great about them it's consistent from tip to tip. Same feel and hardness no matter what. I change a tip same feel. I go to a different shaft same feel.

I find it funny but so much hate for Kamui, but as of right now it's leading in the poll.

The person that installs my tips has a gadget that checks the hardness and he has never installed a bad one yet.

I’ve been using Haze medium for years. Expensive and hard to find but worth every penny!

Of a
Searing - Good
Navigator Automatic - OK
Predator Victory Soft - Good but mushroomed after about 300 hours of play
Of all those tips the Victory soft would be last. Not even close to Precision/Searing tip. I see Searing was removed from the list

I have a question for you. Back in the late 90's I used Elkmaster all the time. I remember when they are first put on that every shot I took would put a dent in the tip until it hardened up a bit. Also they wore down very quickly because of constantly reshaping. However I loved the way they felt and played. I had an Elkmaster installed on a cue several months ago. It did not resemble the Elkmaster I remember. It was one piece of course but was a lot harder, held it shape, didn't dent and didn't seem to hold chalk as well as I remember. Has Tweeten changed the way they make them in the last 25 years?
The last Elkmasters I got were as hard as my break tip!

Attempted to install my first Moori last night. As soon as the tool hit the tip, it completely fell apart. Came from a sealed package. Total delamination.
Been installing and using Moori tips for the last 10 years. Never had a problem.

Howdy All;

Long time ago I used Le Pros. Found some of the WBs and liked them maybe a wee bit better.
Switched to pooldawg milkduds and truly enjoy them. Had a cue made and the tips are Triangles.
Haven't swapped them out , ... yet. Maybe I will but the jury is still out on them.
Bought a box of the LePros back in 79 and still have most of'em. Weighed them and just have
been using the heaviest ones. No faulty ones so far. Have a supply of the WBs and several pooldawg's
on hand for when I get curious again, chucklin'.

I still find it funny kamui's are still in the lead. I've seen so much hate for them things online.

I was looking to replace an old tip I saw over 500+ positive amazon reviews on the things, plus they were ranked in the top 10 of tips purchased. For $25 I'd I give them a shot. I've spent more money on dumber things.

After about 6 months I've never seen any of them issues people complain about. The best thing I can say about them is they are consistent from tip to tip and I'll take that any day.

I’m liking Techno Dud right now but Searing Precision is my favorite layered tip.

What was your weight range? I weighed 5 and I think the heaviest was 12 grains and the lightest was around 11. I also noticed a slight difference in height. Unfortunately I misplaced them, hopefully the Le Pro the guy put on is a good one.

I used Grams. the heavies were 0.9 to 1.0 range some slightly more like 1.03or 05. Some in the 0.80 to 0.89 (the majority), and a few less then 0.79
Check out a conversion chart , I think 12 gr. would = about 0.78 g.

Here is my take. Kami is most popular so they have sheer numbers and mostly sold to APA players who don't know anything. BUT......truth is most of the hate comes from folks in my category. Older folks, like me, who are still bitter that we were never pros for whatever reason. Stuck in the world of maple shafts, single layer tips, baby powder and chalk towers, cloth with tumbleweeds on it, house chalk and smoke. Pissed that things have changed without our permission. That things have passed us by and the new is better than our old way.
So yes. Kamui sucks. Even though I've never owned a cue with a Kamui tip on it..........

I miss them days. I went to a tournament over the weekend looking to pickup some action. Everyone in the damn room is a pool nerd and can't play for shit.

I hear the new Ko brothers tips are good I'll be trying one out soon. As for now Precision tips is what I like to use.

Me too. Miss smoke filled rooms. Old crusty guys that ran local numbers gigs sitting there all day betting on games. Guys barking for action. Characters. Local characters. Now we have folks with $3k worth of pool gear that can't run three balls or bet that water is wet.
