Unfortunately, this thread makes the point all too well about dumbing down, lack of posters intending to make meaningful contributions, or whatever.
By the way, while I can see why some see the sheer number, nature and tenor of CJ posts as overwhelming, offending or insert your own description, I don't get the constant focus on his posting as being advertisement. Many or most of his posts contain substantive content (whether you agree with it or not) that takes time to create, so it is hard to imagine he sells enough DVDs or tee shirts or chalk or autographed pictures or whatever to justify the time he spends posting. He either enjoys trying to help others or likes the limelight, but I can't believe he makes enough money to justify the time spent or the aggravation of the way some people interact with him.

I don't think you are right. I see you have been a member for a while but I don't really see any difference. It is just a place for pool discussion. A lot of questions that are often repetitive but that is normal on any forum. It just seems like the same forum it has always been.
It seems to be a fine line... Anytime tips, chalks or racks are questioned I generally respond... Many posters assume I respond simply because I am trying to hawk my wares but that's only a small part of the response... I generally want people to be educated about the different options and we have done extensive research on the above topics... Of course I think our products are superior in many ways but I also will point out other products that a person can try if ours DON'T fit.......
I think maybe they forget I was in these topics well before we developed our products because I was in constant research mode... But now that we have products I am just a salesman... I guess I must have been gifted the ability to see into the future as well... I was in RSB and found AZ in 2008... We didn't have anything to even sell until the end of 2011 early 2012... I spent all those years in presale mode?? Yeah right...
And why do we need more posts about chalk, tips and racks?? Because not everyone knows anything about those subjects and NO use the search function is not an answer answering questions is just fine regarless of how often you have to answer the same one as long it's not from the same person...
Eventually most topics are discussed so what will be left to discuss? add to that that more information come in and more "Brands" not manufacturers show up... Yeah it makes it hard for me to sit quietly simply because some posters have their own opinions...
As far as the dumbing down premise I disagree.. Which is the problem.. Someone disagrees with some on here they will squawk and ruffle their feathers.. Same mindset as whoever yells the loudest wins the argument....
The science is unsettled on many topics.. I think in the old days AZers would accept opinions from many as fact but as their "facts" continued to be proven just opinion or questioned they just assume everyone is "dumb" for not being part of the pandomonium.... About the only fact I am 100% sure of anymore is water is wet and I won't even bet on that unless I am carrying a pocketful.
I do respect what Dr Dave and Bob have done over the years I just think more testing has to be done putting back variables that were removed or addressing variables that were not controlled on some topics but that's just me being dumb... Or maybe thinking for myself.....
There are a lot of people on here who have game that don't feel like getting into drawn out multi-page arguments with the usual suspects here who are relentless and won't give up. It just becomes easier to spend your time other ways. Why share something when you are going to get drawn into a situation with a bunch of pinheads trying to prove they are the smartest one in the room. **** that! I'm sure I am not the only one who feels that way. This isn't a new thing, been that way a long time here and on other forums.

Yes it seems like a horrible thing that CJ created a thread that has a couple of thousand posts in it and almost 200,000 views. What is wrong with him creating this kind of interest? The forum would be much better off with threads with no comments or views. Ban all posters who create topics that are interesting to the majority.
I don't think party politics has anything to with it. I think it's more of an ego thing.
For instance: I'll wager I can play One Pocket better than you. Since I believe I can, then how are you going to tell me anything about pool play that I don't already know.
And yes, we do have alliances here, that's true. I'll usually side with Dick, and PJ will usually side with Lou, and at the end of the day we'll all have a drink together unless someone has really gotten their feelings hurt.
Common sense has nothing to do with anything that occurs on this forum. We deal in words here, and words, as any good lawyer will tell you, can mean lot's of things to lot's of people.
As for stirring shit. It's a hobby of mine.
Maybe if they allowed public floggings of the bad apples, the good people would return

My objective is simple, I like to help people improve their pool games. If someone doesn't agree with how I play or experience pool, it makes no difference to me. They have free will and can choose not to read my posts if they don't understand my points.
Arguing with me over how I play pool is silly, I know my game better than anyone, just like you know yours better than anyone...there's no difference.
No complicated reasons, no hidden agendas, no conspiracy theories apply. My teachers taught me "you must be willing to give it away, to keep it" and that's how I choose to live my life. By helping other people I am Blessed in ways that are difficult to imagine, or explain.....let's just say it's like Karma, and I Reap what I Sow every day.

The "wrist thread" is one of the biggest, most popular ones in az history and I've still NEVER sold a wrist, or anything that even resembles a wrist. The fact is there is no money in the pool industry to buy things, I accepted that years ago.
