Back hurting

can anybody tell me any exercise that might help my lower back.hell im getting on up there and it seems that the last year it takes less games before it really starts to hurting..I know theres got to be some fat boys out ther that get down on there cue as much as i do..After 41 years of playing its hard to change my stance,and really dont wont to.I know somebody gona say loss a100 but theres got to be another way...
 
I'd look into starting to do stretching exercises. Not just for pool, but for life in general.

I find this helps my issues with lower back pain. Note: I am not a doctor and you should consult with a physician before starting any new exercise program.

Lie down flat on the floor with your knees bent (feet flat on floor). Lift your pelvis area up a few inches and hold. Repeat for x reps. This can help strengthen your lower back. Make sure to stretch your back and hamstrings before playing. Good luck.

Get a temperpedic (spelling?) bed. I did and my back can recover overnight after a long day of pool. I have two herniated disks.

Lie on the floor on your back. Keeping your legs togetherraise them 3-4" off the floor and hold in that position for several seconds and then, keeping your legs elevated spread them, then bring legs back together before coming to rest (extend the time as you can tolerate)

i dont know but if you find something that works let me know. My back and my bridge shoulder are the reason i dont practice as much as id like. After a few hours theyre both killing me. Stretching does seem to help my back a little.

I have back problems also and it affects my pool playing. I was suffering with my low back pain and my wife and I decided to get a Temperpedic bed and it's the best money i've spent in a long time. It didn't make the back pain go away, but it sure helped as much as anything i've ever tried. I wake up rested now and I don't toss and turn as much.

Lots of water in the body is a large factor. Hydrate long before you know you plan to play. Quality glucosimine is sworn by many to make a difference too. A fistful of quaaludes probably won't hurt either.
 
Do Yoga or Pilates. This will fix your back in no time! This is coming from a guy who was run over by a semi truck and suffered two broken hips, shattered pelvis and a broken back!

I out grue quualudes a long time ago plus thy never help the playing at all..Ill try the excercise,,streching ,glucosimie..Tank far your advice
 
I've been suffering from several bulging disks and a few pinched nerves because of a work accident for the last couple years. I've found that bending at my knees more hasn't really changed my overall performance. I know you said you don't want to change your stance, but just bending at the knees, getting into position and straightening out your knees after that has really helped me out. I've also found that (if you can do this) sitting on a large aerobics ball during the day before I shoot helps as well, it cuts down the amount of stress on my back up to the start of the night.

Find a good chiropractor. I did, and I am doing a lot better now.

it's odd, but it WAS POOL THAT FIXED MY BACK PROBLEMS
very serious car wreck when i was 18
when i hit my 40's it became pain that never quit
doc's choices were, SURGERY or PAINPILLS or RIDE A BIKE or SWIMMING
i picked none of the above and coincidentally started playing pool
if you think about, it's just like doing sit-ups, but standing
that constant bending up & down motion exercised all those weak, torn & damaged muscles
wasnt a cure all by any means, but it sure helped me a lot
 
If you were to go to a physical therapist the first thing that would happen would be stretching your hamstrings, Earlier someone mentioned hydration, this is good for everything, proper hydration will make a world of difference in a human body, hydration comes from one thing only (Water)

I'm going through the same thing now. My chiropractor gave me these stretches that really seem to help:

Lie flat with knees bent. Bring knees into chest and wrap your arms around your legs hugging your knees closer to your chest and hold for about 30 seconds. Repeat several times.

Lie flat with knees bent. Cross right ankle in front of left knee. Reach your right arm through your legs and left arm around the outside of left leg and lace your fingers around your left shin. Slowly pull your your left thigh up to your chest. Hold for about 30 seconds and repeat on other leg.

Lie flat on your back legs straight. Bend left leg and cross left foot onto the top or right side of right thigh, depending on how flexible you are. Slowly push your left knee towards the ground to your right keeping your back flat. Hold for about 30 seconds and repeat on other side.
 
Imo

All of these "lie flat" exercises are only good if you haven't done some serious damage to your nerves. I would suggest trying my method (posted earlier) first. I did physical therapy back in '04 when I first injured my back and those exercises were immediately stopped because they found I was doing MORE damage to myself. While doing core strengthening exercises is a good thing, if you try this before shooting pool, you might hurt even more. Maybe do then on the days you are NOT planning to play. at least for the first couple months.
 
use a heel board

Buy or build a heel board and use it every day, multiple times a day when you first need to and as needed later. This gently stretches hamstrings and when you are really tight will stretch things all the way to the back of your skull. A huge amount of low back problems starts with tight hamstrings so stretching them usually works wonders.

When the physical therapist started me on a heel board I thought it was BS. When I went home that Friday I made my own heel board being unwilling to do without one for two days. It's twenty years later now and that original heel board still sits by my bed and I still use it a lot. Definitely a pool player's friend.
