Bad Deal and a heads up

I would hope that the 43 good transactions can stand on their own for those of you who have never dealt with me on a cue deal. I would also hope that If things get bumpy and accusations start to fly that the 43 people will vouch for my integrity.

Here is my side of the story.......
I sold a cue to a gentleman for 550.00. The buyer wanted to use a money order as a form of payment. I was ok with that and stated that the cue would ship after funds had cleared the bank. This sale started this past Monday and I have been in contact with the buyer all week long via email.

Today, after missing the envelope that was sent Express Mail with tracking yesterday, I stand in line at the post office for over a half hour to pick up the envelope and ship the cue. This is where things go south, I opened the envelope in front of the post master and it was empty. You got it, somebody spent 20.00 to send me an empty envelope. Before I opened the envelope, I asked the post master if he could verify the money order as being legit and he said he could do that for me. After we opened the envelope, he commented that it was odd that somebody would spend 20.00 to ship an empty envelope.

I am thankful that I did not ship my cue when I got a tracking # from the buyer or I would be on the hook for the 550.00. I have since sent an email to him explaining what I just typed above. I will give him a chance to respond before I reveal his SN. I hope it was just an honest mistake on his end.

This is just another example why escrow or just smart business practices are the only way to ensure an honest deal.

Update
It looks like there was an oversight on the buyer's end. Seems like an honest mistake that should go away this week.
The buyer has been in contact with me on the matter and is working on his end to get it resolved.
The intent of this thread is meant to serve as a visual to what can go wrong and is not meant to bash somebody.

Update
Received the money order on 7/9/13 and deposited it 7/10/13. I will be shipping the cue out 7/11/13 or 7/12/13 depending on what time I can get out of work Thursday.

This was just a mistake that was corrected. I want to take this time to thank the buyer for the extra effort and being honest. I am going to leave green Itrader.

I am sorry to hear about this.
Well, actually, you made a smart thing by having someone(post master) as witness. This way buyer can not say that you just took the money order. Plus, if he sent it, he must have receipt. Every USPS money order is traceable by serial number. Not sure about other money orders.
And yes, it sounds like buyer did not include money order by mistake. Wait to see what he has to say.
If he insists that he sent it, ask him for copy of receipt. There has to be a number to trace it by.
Good luck.

I would bet the guy was trying to cheat you out of the cue. Even if he did "accidentally" send the envelope without the money order, there would have no reason for him not to notice it shortly thereafter and to send you an email explaining what had happened. If you do not get a reply from him now you will definetely know what his intentions are.

As a seller you really need to protect yourself against potential scammers. I even had a guy go to the trouble of overnighting me a fake money order. Just like the OP did it is always best to be able to verify the funds are good and cashout the payment BEFORE you ship. That could be by getting paid by a USPS money order where you go right up to the counter and verify/cash the money order or having the buyer send you a personal check drawn on a bank that is local to the seller where they can walk in with the check and walk out with the $.

Last thing is don't hold onto the postal money order / personal check even if you have verified they are good. Both forms of payment could be stopped after you have sent the item if they have not cleared yet. Basically the only way to confirm you are going to get paid is if you actually have the $ in your hand before you ship.

Could also be a simple case of absent-mindedness on the part of the buyer. If so, this should work itself out quickly.

Omg, that's really accident guys
I'm not gonna lie to buy cue from somebody.
I really want buy that cue
U have to trust me Tom, even someone take that money I will send u again
That's really accident

This guys asked me two or three times for pictures last week after I sent them(he was looking for j/b and I showed him 2), I guess he is just new. But really weird thing with envelope

After all the horror stories I've read over the years, I'm glad I adopted the policy years ago that until the money is actually in my hand, so is the cue. Even when paying with PayPal, the cue stays with me until the money has physically been deposited in my account. Good luck, I hope this has a happy ending. After all...I'm sure most of us enjoy a happy ending every once in a while!!! :)

U right guys, I'm new n I'm never buy money order before
I just give it to woman the one working on post office
I though she the one gonna put inside envelope. N I was really don't have time to wait
I'm really sorry, I promise I will send again even the first money order somebody took it

A postal money order is certainly the way to go and for sure never send something before having cash in hand. On the other side of things, when I have purchased something from someone with a postal money order, I get the money order, scan a copy of it and email it to the seller before I send it. This allows the seller to have a few days before the postal money order gets to them as if they want to pre check with the post master that the serial number was indeed drawn from the said post office, they can. It may be an extra step on my part to make a seller comfortable, but, worth the effort. Also, please remember that using a postal money order is good practice and the reason I scan and email the copy is that when it matches up in the amount of an agreement and sent, if I do not receive the item at all or in a very alternative state, a post money order is government currency and especially if that government currency goes across state lines and the goods are not delivered, well that's a felony and you can bring in all types of state and federal help. A good reason to well document and be honest about what your selling in good detail. Smart move that this seller opened the envelope before handing over this shipment. Hopefully, it's a well honest mistake and all gets resolved soon. At some point, we all have rushed like heck to get something done and done a true * Duh * before, but, sure is a eye opener. I was waiting for a payment and sent a nicely refurbished McDermott to Hawaii as I shipped out six cues that day and stupidly done a label for the Hawaii shipment also and sent it. Well, you guessed it, never heard from him again, never saw my cue, police didn't want to bother with it and could not find someone in the pool industry in Hawaii who would help. Now, I give one day shipment as I never pre package anything unless I'm shipping something that same very day. Oh the lesson one learns and it usually only takes one time. lol. Good Luck

I went to the post office a few weeks ago to send two money orders for purchases from here. I made a mistake and sealed the envelope on one without the M/0. I caught it when I was walking out the door and the M/O was still on the counter. I had already filled everything out, but almost messed up. I was in a hurry and they were busy.

Since then....I set up a PayPal account. Nothing like that to worry about now. Glad everything is working out for you now though.

Post

I don't care who says what, a empty envelope is no accident!!!
End the deal and sell the cue to someone else-a honest person.
You and I both know the story line from the buyer would of changed if he had already received the cue at the time of the arrival of the empty envelope.

You almost got took by a cue bandit'

They buyer knew the cue wasn't going to be shipped until the M/O was cashed and cleared. The cue wasn't going to ship with an empty envelope. Interesting post though.

That's an "interesting" story....glad it ended on a good note. No, wait it's not over yet...to be continued.

So you went to the post office to buy and send a $550 money order but did not take it from the postal clerk? You actually expected a postal clerk to put your MO in the envelope for you!?
No postal clerk would risk their job in doing that and would have stopped you if you tried to walk out without the money order that you just paid for. You did not have time to make sure you $550 was properly taken care of?

Sorry man. I call BS! The seller is lucky that he missed the mailman and opened the letter in front of the postmaster. If not I would guess you would be on here saying that the OP had taken your money and refused to send the cue hoping he would send you something to keep his good rating.

transaction

I might as well put my 2 cents in.
I ran across this thread because I wanted to give Alexus a Green rep
After making a deal with Alexus late last night, and as promised by Alexus the money was western union to me today...............................................................

I had not read this thread until now.....................................................

This transactions went as smooth as silk .

Everyone can figure out for them self's who is honest and who is not.
and if something was or wasn't a honest mistake.

Really sucks when everyone thinks some one is a scammer , it turn out that it was a stupid mistake.

I don't know what happened, but you guys might be slow to convict Alexus on this one .
It might of been nothing more then not paying attention at the post office.
