Bad habits?

What are some bad habits that re-occur in your game. My self I get a little wild with my stroke, I get to fast, I tend to get to low, and I tend to be less selective of where I hit the cue ball. That is the one that messes me up worst of all. I'll find myself just using english left, right, bottom, ect. Rather than aiming more exact on both balls.

My game has a nasty habit of drinking, cursing and smoking. It will also occasionally fart if it's bored. There's nothing I can do. I keep telling it we're in public and that we have to act accordingly. I'm glad to know others are coming out and talking about their game's bad habits. I thought I was the only one that had a problem. Is there anything we can do? I've been trying to get my game to the next level but it keeps getting held back. Either it's grades or lack of attendance but now, I'm beginning to think these bad habits just need to be addressed and perhaps my game will develop a little more descipline. BTW, the farts are really horrible. Whenever my game starts in, I can't even watch.

Bad Habits ... The Monks at their finest, imo.

Until now I had always thought playing Jude would be a pleasure, now I'm not so sure  :D

I have too many bad habits to list. To me my bad habits are "feelings" and I've always had difficulty expressing my feelings. HOWEVER, it may come as some consolation that 'unlearning bad habits' is not what you want to do, rather you want to 'learn a good habit' right over top of the bad habit. You just get more confortable with the new habit over a few weeks and relegate the old bad habit to the recesses of your mind. It takes some work, but no more than it took to lean anything else, so don't let that scare you.

Your game is cheating on you? Wow. Your game is a playa. That's so typical.

I skip the aim step in my shooting routine rather frequently, and end a lot of runs on embarassingly easy shots because of it. Specifically when I've just paused to think for moment about what kind of angles I want for the rest of my out, or if/when I'll play a break-out, or any of those intellectual decisions you make during a run. Once I've decided, I seem to think "OK, thinking's over, now shoot", and I'll jump down, practice stroke, and fire, without having really aimed the shot. I'm working on training myself to always follow my routine before shooting, so I'm getting better about this, but it still happens.

My game is like a dog I once had, the only trick it can do is roll over and play dead.

DO YOU WANT HELP?

You are what you practice. Our training habits follow us to the game table....SPF=randyg

My number one bad habit is playing bad tables (i.e. one with rolls etc.) as if I playing on my table (i.e. near perfect level, 860, etc.)

I'll often try to slow roll shots that I shouldn't ... or play slow rolling precise shape (which I can do fine on a good table) when I should take the table condition into consideration and adjust my approach/shot selection.

He said a lot here. If you play casually when you practice and don't concentrate on what you're doing, it will carry over to "real game" situations.

Sloppy practice and sloppy play in fun games is guaranteed to get you out of stroke!

This is sooo true. My only question is can I get my stroke back before I go broke. I am glad I have a day job. Unfortunatly, so are my opponents lately.

my worst habit is probably missing fairly makeable balls after playing timid shape. I very often underhit a ball in order to guarantee I have the right angle, leaving myself 2 more feet of green than I want, and therefore occasionally missing and dogging easy outs.

Since, the city I live in has no pool hall, the only decent place to play is a local bar/bowling alley that has 3 valley tables with new rails n felt. But the only problem is, the tables are starting to get rolls and the usual stuff. Plus the felt is " Mercury " so its a bit " slow "

So when I go out of town to play in tournaments and get on tables that play FAST, and dont have the rolls, I change shots and hit everything softer and with hardly any english.

Now when i go back to the tables I play on, I under hit alot of stuff and end up sometimes stuck behind a ball because of under stroking the shot or not using enough english.

But the nice thing is, these tables make me shoot my shots with more precision because of the rolls, so I hit those shots firm so the table roll doesnt take.

Plus my break is ALOT better to because on the slower table I have to actually break harder to make a ball, and on the FAST tables, I do a medium break and get the same results.

Another downfall of mine is I tend to use english too often and too much of it.

That bas#%$* has been with someone else since the late nineties. I guess since your vision leaves, you put on a little weight, and "the game" looks for a younger, more invigorating person to hang out with.

Maintaining focus and 'Stroke' for the duration.

I start out very focussed on what I am doing and things go well. Then I get too relaxed (I guess)and can't seem to make it through a set without it slipping somewhere in the middle and then I have to work to pull it back in before it's too late.
