Dealing with cue makers is sort of a nightmare I think. Why would they need to fuss over makinging an actual real playing cue and making sure the player is comfortable with it when they got all these collectors just waiting to buy multiple and relatively expensive cues. So, the market is "I make cue, deliver cue, done". Imagine if the car market was no test drives possible, just get what you get no matter what, or if clothes were buy it without trying. I do see both sides but that doesn't make buying any less of a nightmare.
