"Bad Rolls" How do you handle them?

Hee-Haw!

How do you deal with opponents that constantly ***** about rolls?

I have a couple guys that love to call out to me "You're the luckiest white boy in America"! Of course they discount their share of good rolls, but boy can they ***** about their bad rolls.

I need some good lines to help shut them the hell up. It gets old hearing it every stinkin' rack! I know I need to get mentally stronger so I don't sink to that level or put negative thoughts in my head, but additionally...

Help, I need some good lines!

Just ask 'em how that Kleenex sponsorship is workin' out for 'em. :grin-square:

"the balls roll funny for everybody"

Typically, I get more frustrated when these rolls help a player I should normally beat.....it helps his confidence, and he fails to realize his good fortune, and the fact that every time he misses i get hooked

To combat it, I just try to play a two way shot on something I might miss.....if I "miss on the pro side" or play shape where he is blocked out if I miss, then hopefully I can right the ship and shift the momentum back....

I don't mind A bad role, but getting 2,3,4 in succesion is what gets me. I'm a very mathematical minded person.... I know I'll get bad rolls and my opponent will too. I get upset when I'm getting the majority of them.

It is most annoying when you take a chance that you have to take where there is a 50/50 chance of coming up good.... and you fail everytime in a match.... sometimes is seems like you just can't win.

I'm think of switching to snooker and not playing as much 8/9 ball .... for precisely this reason.

I throw and kick stuff, maybe break a cue, cuss like you wouldn't believe, and walk up and pull off some lucky as hell kick safe back. ;) Other than that, I think I handle bad rolls pretty well.

Honestly, if an opponent leaves me nasty after a miss on accident, I'll say something like, "wow, you're even better than I thought you were", and smile. If I pull off a tough shot and still end up bad....I learn from it.

I usually don't have a big problem with rolls untill they are noticable 1 sided. I've played people that just flat out get lucky rolls. Its sick. If you can master having a good, healthy mind set through a "night" of bad rolls you've done well and should congratulate yourself. Its tough.

I just rake the balls and throw my cue like a javelin in the Olympics.

I find if you throw it more in a helicopter like style not only does it relieve more stress, but has MUCH more potential of doing damage!! Javelin style might leave a hole in something or put an eye out, but helicopter style can take out a few lights, opponent, spectators, etc. Plus it looks cooler

i find pool a lot like poker, when u run good u run good but when u run bad u run really bad,

played other day guy goes for the 4 misses it and banks it in other middle then mis cues on the 5 hits it thin hits the 9 and flukes the 9, then snooker him next game comes off the cushion hits the 1 balls go everywhere and 9 goes in, drives me crazy but just gotta learn pool is not like snooker even bad players can win, so its a lot like poker when they hit there gut shot or runner runner its part of the game you just have to learn to take it no matter how hard it hurts and just smile and think i'll have you in the next rack

I've been feeling the pain of bad rolls for me or good rolls for my competitor for so long now that I avoid playing the game. I've adaptive the attitude that when I know I've missed the shot, I head for the chair oblivious to the outcome of the leave. It's too painful to watch my poor attemps turn into wounderful leaves for my competitor. I will then disengage myself from the game until it's my turn, and what do ya know?, I get either a dick or a full length cut shot which requires inside english to get position on the next shot. This night mare doesn't seem like it want to end but just keep feeding on its self. I know my play makes me look like a dick but its the only way I can handle this s**t.

I saw the espes the other night and there was a quote by John Wooten's father, made when the famous coach launched his carrier, "Don't whine, don't complain, and don't make excuses". Try to adhear to these ideals when the pool gods aren't in your camp.

I have lost my passion for the game. I know these rolls a suppose to even out but its seem like forever seen I've had a good day at the game.
When will it end?

What can you do? It's part of the game. I think once you start letting it get to you, it happens to you even more. Stay cool and the rolls will come to you as well.

Ya think, well I've been waiting.

I used to get really pissed, but then I realized I was wasting energy. I started focusing that energy on my play when I step to the table. Seems to me that the longer you are at the table the "rolls" you get.

One thing that gets me is when I play someone and the rolls clearly go their way in the match and at the end he tells me that we both got some bad rolls! He was 3 to 1 on the plus side and he says we were even on the rolls.

I can't count high enough to tell how many times i've had to kick or jump and I make a good hit and of course I leave my opponent straight in and he runs out. I try my best to not let it bother me and the rolls are supposed to equal out, but sometimes it just doesn't happen.

I don't say anything about good or bad rolls. I just try to move on and not let it get to me.

On the other hand if you want to see me get pissed, let the guy I'm playing start crying about me getting a "lucky roll". First of all if I miss a shot and I'm in perfect position for the next ball and he happens to be hooked, that's not luck as far as I'm concerned. I'll blow a gasket in a freaking minute if someone starts this crap. If there's one thing I can't stand it's a grown man crying about a roll.

"That's just how I roll baby!!!!! Deal with it."

Worst part of my game. I have the hardest time fading bad rolls at the wrong time. I work on it all the time and have gotten better on the outside, but on the inside I am still as hot as a firecracker. My toes curl up and I want to call the guy a sucker and I just sit there with a smile on my face. Man it is hard to do, but you can never let them see you sweat. Any sign of weakness could be fatal.

Hopefully, I will master it one day.
