A guy at the poolhall has been touting his Balabushka chalk. Claiming it is the best he's ever used. It's selling for 60.00 a dozen on ebay. What's the story here?.

Its got to be a joke, or worst case scenario the new fashionable thing to have....... :D
Master chalk is the best, most everyone will agree on that point. Those who dont, lost money from a miscue once.........

yeah its pretty expensive, i remember someone posting about selling some for like 40 dollars. ive never tried it and at that price i probably never will lol

google just turns up ebay items and nothing at the retail pool suppliers. I suspect its someone trading on the name Balabushka legally or not.

I think I got some with an order for something else on ebay. It was really crappy chalk. I dont think I even used it. It had like some plastic or wax film on it that was hard to get off.

It's good chalk. I bought several cubes a while back for a lot less than that. I doubt it was any more than Master, and I found it to be pretty good. It's softer and smoother(less gritty) but works well. If I had to choose, however, I would stick with Master personally. If someone wants some PM me and I could likely get you some for a lot cheaper than that.

Hey Tommy. Probably Ray you are referrring to. He gave a piece to my son Austin. I never tried it but looking at the tip of Austin's cue it does seem to cover well. Austin is only 10 so take it as you will, he said that it does not break down into little pieces as Masters does. Also he states that he rarely miscues.

I believe the company stopped producing it so what you find is what ever is left floating in industry..

Yeah, Cowboy Bob of Americancowboy billiards gives it away free with every order, probably cause he can't sell it. The stuff is garbage, I've owned many, many pieces of it. It's like baby powder with neon blue dye in it. Very good coverage, but it also gets over everything in sight. Stick to master chalk. Anybody that pays that much for garbage deserves what they get. It's just like that triangle shaped chalk on ebay, (not triangle brand), total snake oil gimmick.

balabushka chalk.

I have a few boxes that never got used. I tried. I like master light green chalk way better.

Balabushka chalk has a relatively small but fanatical following. The stuff grabs a cue ball and stays on a tip better than Master. It's also a lovely shade of robin-egg blue. It was discontinued in April, 2006, and the price has skyrocketed ever since. I bought two dozen last December for $5/doz., and sold one dozen in June for $40. I'm down to my last cube :( and I'm saving that until I see where the price tops out.

I got two cubes from American cowboy billiards when I won an auction for some tips.Didn't like it one bit, threw it out.

I got a dozen for $12.95 in Lynbrook L.I. I like the chalk. but if you play in humid conditions it cakes up

A few years ago i bought a dozen for 6 dollars. I also saw that 40 dollar BS on ebay.

Its good chalk and covered well. Im guessing its because its particles are much finer. There is like a wax film over it but after chalking a few times its basically off. I dont like it much on really hard tips though cause in my experiance itll come right off after hitting a ball. It does seem to come off a lot more than masters, and after a session using that chalk your hand will most likely be blue. i still have 5 unused cubes left, one of which had the wrapper printed mirrored.

I like it, but you wont find me paying 40 bucks for it. Its good but not THAT good and i would rather take that 40 and buy a gross of masters.

I bought a couple of small boxes two years ago, because I was curious. At first I like it, but, I didn't get through one cube before I noticed it had little black specks (dirt,or something) embedded in it. Plus the density seemed to vary throughout the cube. It was soft and went on smooth at first but got real hard as Iwent down thru the cube (maybe because of the crap that was in it). I quit using it. I don't really think that any one brand is signifincantly better than another but I use Masters, primarily, because it is as consistent as anything - but that's not meant as shining endorsement, by any means (its ok and its free). :D

the best chalk i ever used was this chalk that has Longini's name on it..its called Blue Diamond chalk.. and its like 5.00 for 2 pieces... i always use master but i had a friend who had some and it seemed to feel really nice when you chalked the cue... here is the link.. i think a guy sells it on ebay.. you should try it..

I bought a dz a couple of years ago and didnt like it, went back to masters. This spring I cleaned out the cabinet in my pool room and threw like 8 or 9 cubes away. Big mi$$take.

I bought some Balabushka chalk off ebay last year and its absolutely garbage, I think I'm going to give them away with a few cues I'll be putting on ebay.

The best chalk i ever used was some NTC chalk with the black paper wrapper. I'm guessing they stopped making it as i can't seem to find it anywhere now!

So to summarize:
NTC>Masters>dog Sh*t>Balabushka
