Just picked this cue up and I am trying to find some info on it. The person I acquired it from claims it's a Balabushka. Will have better pictures up soon. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

What is for sale?

Info section is in the Cue Gallery. This is Wanted for Sale.
I see you just joined, so just a heads up!
Good luck with your cue.

I'm not sure if its the pics or not but it looks like there is a black ring between where the points meet the wrap?

You need pics of the joint of the shafts and the butt. You want to show the pin on the butt and the inserts on the shafts.

I hope you paid Adams money and not Balabushka money. Your friend told you it was a Balabushka and sold it as a Balabushka and you bought it as a Balabushka with no authentication?

Why does this not sound right?

Thanks

Kevin

Yep.. good news its a Balabushka... bad news... its a Balabushka-san.

I'm so old that I remember when Balabushka meant a cue built by George Balabushka. So I'm always confused when guys ask "is this a Balabushka?". I always think the answer is no when its in fact, yes.

the black ring above the wrap is not balabushka
in my opinion

i have had around 40 of them and seen many more and i never saw the black ring

You are as old (or older) than me. I'm afraid the correct answer is "yes its a fine Japanese Balabushka".

balbusk

yeah I saw that cue as well, i wondered the same and did my homework and was not ready to take the chance. I wish you luck that it is a balbushk because it would have been a steal !

I'm not a Balabushka expert, but this does not look like a cue made by George himself. The inlays seem to be a little bit excessive for George's style. But then again, I have only seen about a dozen originals, all of which are quite modest in decorations. So, take this with a grain of salt. Nevertheless, it does look like one of those replicas, which are still remarkable cues. One of my friends' father was a friend of George's. When he comes back from vacation, I'll go ask him if this hasn't been resolved by then.
