balance rite extension affect on stroke

I recently tried the balance rite extension to my ob cue. I have always been a bit of sucker for experimenting with new things for pool. I added it to ob cue just more in curiousity. Thought, hey maybe I could avoid having to use the rake more often. But I thought there would be a negative trade off. I mean why wouldn't they make all cues 62 inches if this was a good idea.

But interestingly enough, besides giving me the extra 4 inches of reach...I think it improved my stroke. In particular with top spin / follow shots (which I have always had trouble with...better with draw).

Anyone experience this? Anyone understand why this would improve my shots where I use follow (I am aware of the placebo effect of trying new equipment...but I really think has happened)?

Play with an OB130, originally with the OB1+ shaft, and now with the OB Classic+ shaft.

I have a 4" ebony extension made by a cue maker on this site, and what I have noticed is the cue plays with more of a forward balance that is much more to my liking.

Not sure why you do better with top/follow. There are a bunch of stroke mechanics on here that will answer that better than I.

I stayed away from Balance Rite due to their quality issues.

I like my Balance Rite. Maybe the extra length causes more whippiness further away from the center/fulcrum of the now longer cue.

Yea...I think I got lucky with the balance rite I got...it fit my ob well (but I could see how slight inconsistencies in the product could have made it not fit so well).

Also, to mention...I am only about 5'8.5". So my improved stroke with the extension has nothing to do with me using a cue length more suited for my height.

The balance point.

I like my slightly forward balanced cue, but just going to a 30" shaft made things a bit better.

Just to make the point hold your cue AT the balance point & hit a few shots.

In golf it's called swing weight. If a golf club is too lite at the head end one loses feel of where the head is during the swing. IF a pro changes to a heavier grip he will add lead tape onto the head to get the right balance & feel back.

I think it's the added forward weight/balance.

Best Wishes for You & Yours,
Rick

I don't know about extensions but I have been using 31 inch shafts on my cue and love it.

.

I keep seeing people with expensive cues that were supposedly made to be perfectly balanced and they add these chunks of wood and metal to them and they either don't seem to be affected by it or they may even play a little better.
Goes against all the logic I can muster up in my poor little noggin.

balance rite

I tried it and liked it for 9 ball but not one pocket thought it played good, but what's even better is Jacoby edge 31in shaft I tried it and flat out love it and I always be a maple shaft user.

I have been in a slump now for about 4 months and no matter what I have tried I have remained there. So, I try different things trying to discover what the @#$%&^ I am doing to cause my difficulties. Last week I put my balance rite on (I never use this because I don't like the extra weight) and noticed I was yet again kicking my arm out on the back swing. I guess the extra weight made me aware of this phenomena. With this in mind, I have been trying to straighten out my stroke again and I already see the results. I also do like a longer cue as I am 6' 1" so I do own some 31" shafts.
