Balukas vs. Fran Crimi

I have an old (Jean was 23) VHS tape of Jean and Fran playing in the finals of a 9ball tournament where the winner got $10,000 and 2nd got $1400 (weird payout). I am trying to get it in digital format and I have a DVD burner and a copy doohickey that I am supposed to hook up. Is there a free program that lets you edit out the bad parts - where those ugly lines come up - they aren't tracking marks, but where the tape got fried?

Also, do you think I should leave the commercials in, which are pretty entertaining as a commentary of that time, or leave them out as it slows the play down a lot?

spetty, maybe you can help?

I remember that. It was at Resorts International Atlantic City. Fran gets drilled 7-1 I think (I hope I didn't ruin it for anyone).

If you have never seen Jean play, it will be an eye opener. Pay attention to how she moves the cue ball. I have yet to see another Woman with such a developed stroke!

The wierd payout was more than likely because they guaranteed a certain amount for first and then didn't have the turn out to pay higher amounts for the rest of the field

Wow. You're old, Corey. :D Also, I was really in suspense over who might have won that match. ;)

Jimmy, I think I saw you in the audience of that match. Or was it rack boy? :D

That seems likely. I like your new avatar, is that your baby girl?

Anyway, I would like answers to my questions...at least the opinion whether to leave the commercials in or not.

Hi Mz Linda,

I don't think there is anything like what you describe that is freeware. Have you thought about retaping the video on another tape to edit and then recording that version to DVD?

I'd keep the commercials or at least add them to the end of the DVD, ya never now when you might want to watch them for a laugh.

Terry

I suggest you leave the commercials. I think they will help define the time line. Just my .02

Hi Linda,
Long time no see. Hope you're doing well and enjoying life.

I'd like to get a copy of this tape/dvd if you don't mind. I've wanted to see Balukas play for as long as I can remember. Please let me know how it works out and if you can get a copy, I'll gladly pay for it!

Take care,
Kristi

Try tucows.com. It's a good site for freeware and shareware (usually low cost software). They even rate the software packages. Just do a search for movie or dvd editing.
BTW, I am waiving my usual fee, so does that mean you will send a "free" copy of the match to me just for all my hard work? :)

I recently aquired a DVD copy of Jean Balukas vs.Ewa Laurance. It was the 1987 Classic Cup 6 Womens final and a 2 set (races to nine) match.I've only watched it briefly and was quite impressed with how well jean Balukas can play.

I will be happy to supply everyone with the digital version online if I can get it done. I have to warn you though, it got pretty shredded and just blanks out with a lot of noise quite regularly. It had to be that tape, of course! The commercials inexplicably come out clear though. lol

I was going to do a search for the editing software when I got back tonight so I may find something and accomplish it this weekend.

Windows Movie Maker comes with XP and has edit capabilities.

I actually went out and practiced last night after school, so I have not searched yet. I think I have something on my new laptop. It's the Qosmio G-15 with the 17" screen. It came with Intervideo WinDVD Creator (thanks for reminding me) and it also may have something else as I have the Media Center version of XP on it. I will work on it this weekend.
