Bank Players - What kind of cues

For the bank players out there

I'm just curious what kind of cue you prefer for banking. I tend to prefer a small shaft than what I might use for say one pocket and a very hard hitting cue.

Just trying to get a feel for what is "normal"

Also, I'm playing with either a southwest or a rick howard flat faced cue. For whatever reason almost all the bank players in my region (louisville, KY) seem to be using steel jointed cues.

The Knoxville Bear used a Paradise and a Gina,Tony Fargo uses a Szamboti. All are S/S joints.

Think the Tip is more important than the Q. IMHO..

Best cue for banking???

I bank best with my Jack Madden and my Gina cues. I believe a lot has to do with the shaft and the tip. A shaft with minimum deflection and a tip that best transfers spin, seems to work best for me. Not sure if either/or is all that important when compared to the stroke and the aim?

I use a Lucasi, cut down to 12.8 MM and use a pressed Elk Master for the tip.. the cue weighs 19.5 oz as well

I have NEVER seen Fargo use the same cue twice lol.
He was definetely not using a szamboti at the derby it was some all red cue that looked like it came from walmart.
But whatever it was he still doesnt miss much

Try shooting with just a tip, no cue.

I just tried this with banking and it didnt work as well.... But I hear this works well with jumping. Ill let you know. :)

Brian Gregg's Cue

Brian's cue is an old Jack Shurtz but, the shaft is from a Southwest. He had it matched up by a local repair guy years ago.

For banks I like to use my Ebony Madden
12.5 shaft
Talisman H turned waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down
steel joint

I would recommend your normal playing cue for Banks. Why not, it's a game where you're gonna let your stroke out a lot. You won't be slow rolling many balls like in One Pocket. You want to feel loose and limber playing Banks, not tight and constricted.

Often, position is not that important, except when you're ducking. You just fire away and keep the cue ball in play. Hey that rhymes. :)
Use the same cue you would use for 9-Ball.

fargo

Tony is using a 4point Bill Webb its green not red. He got it 2 months before derby an fell in love with it. He used a old muecci orginal before that.

P.S. Tony is still the best banker today.

He is a great banker, I'll give him that, and maybe the best today..For the money, playing Banks, Id have to go with Efren However. He may not bank much (excellent cue ball control) but he can bank.. not only that but he can kick bank acurately..as well as play Kicks, and Kick safeties, AND Kick bank Saftey... Whewww... I think thats why Efren when he wants to win, he does.

Freddy is awsome, I cant wait to buy his new DVD, Back in the day, he must have been a killer banker.... I know after reading his book, banking with the beard, somehow any bank that came up I shot with alot more confidence.. Still do..

SPINDOKTOR BANK ON BROTHER! lol.....

I've heard it said by more than one good bank player. A stiff hard hitting cue is better for playing banks. I know a couple that have a different shaft to use while playing banks. Eddie Taylor played off the wall with a standard house cue many times. And for the record Larry Price won the Derby City Classic bank event this year with a players sneaky pete.
