Banking My way To Heaven

Wow, that was very powerful and moving. I am sorry I never got to watch him play, much less, know him as you did Mr. Artie. My prayers go out to his family and to you as well, as you were his brother. Be proud that you lived in the light of the best banker ever.

You know I never read that eulogy before. I'm glad I did now. Bugs was truly a legendary pool player. EVERYONE knew that name, from the East Coast to the West Coast. He and Eddie Taylor were the Gods of Bank Pool, and they both walked on water. And Bugs and Ronnie were Gods of One Pocket too. So Bugs ruled in both realms.

I didn't know him nearly as well as Artie or Freddie, but at Least I got to see him play a few times. When he entered a room, there was a stir that went through the room. "Bugs is here," was on everybody's lips. Bugs had a presence, he commanded attention wherever he was. Just seeing him walk down the street you knew he was someone special. He was a Superstar of the highest order.

I can't really think of another pool player who had such a presence, other than Hubert Cokes who silenced a room when he walked in. Fatty was a magnet for attention but he was more of an entertainer than an athlete. And when Bugs played, you knew anything was possible. He had the power to overwhelm the balls, to control any situation. With Bugs, a long rail bank looked like a cross side for most other players. One other thing I remember was how good he hit long rail banks where he had to cross over the ball. So accurate! And BAM it was gone!

If you saw him play once, you would never forget it. Like Earl in 9-Ball in his prime, Bugs was a speed above the world.

I missed this 'eulogy' too, when it was posted last year! Geez, that's the problem here...miss a day or two, and whole threads disappear into the oblivion of the archives! LOL This place is certainly addictive!

Artie...beautifully said, and from the heart! Thanks to you and Freddy!

I read it last year, but took the time to read it again. It's worthy of bringing this thread to life every year in honor of a legend.

thank you

Thank you Mr. Bodendorfer.....

This is the first I have seen of this post.....
What a great tribute and eulogy you have given to Mr. Rucker.....
Every once in a while, one comes upon a post such as this; and it enriches the mind and the heart to read stories of the great players in the past.
Your words carry great feeling and speaks to the love you had for your friend and the game of pool itself.. Thanks again ....

great tribute and eulogy for one of the pool`s all time Greats.I did not see Bugs while he was in his peak but I did see him when 17 or 18 year old shanon Daulton beat Bugs in one pocket game at continental Inn in Lexington ,KY in 1990/1991.last time I saw him was in Kalamazoo,MI at US Open one pocket championships.

Stumbled upon this one. I took for granted watching Bugs play in my younger years.., thankfully I have my memories. Just a bump for one of the greatest.

Wonderful words about a good friend, Artie. Well done.

Artie, you would do us all a great service if you would put pen to paper and recount the stories of your past, as well as those you have played with, and share them with us. I know that Freddy has provided many an exciting tale and we are all the richer for it. Thanks again.
