I'd like to hear how the majority of you that play in barbox 8-ball tournaments or for the cash break. Which ball do you strike on the break and why? I like the third ball back in most situations. Can't wait to see the results from the poll.

Thanks

I break from the center of the head string dead straight to the head ball at about a notch less than top speed and about a half tip below center... usually

I find on many tables it makes a ball , but it's biggest advantage IMO is that it offers the best cueball control I rarely lose my rock when I use this break

Head ball on almost every break in 9 ball and 8 ball. The only time I go to the second ball break for 8 ball, is if Im getting loose racks that arent opening well. Same applies no matter what size table its on.

Depends on the table

If I'm playing on a Diamond, I'll break medium speed, second ball back on the right side. I normally get a good spread and pocket something.

If I'm on some old dirty valley or similar.....i hit them as hard as i can dead on and hope

Depends on who I am playing and what I am attempting to achieve. With weaker players I use the headball break as it opens the rack quite readily and I can keep the cue ball in the center of the table.
For stronger players and a better shot at an 8 on the break I use the second ball break.
I use a phenolic tip/ferrule on my break cue so this allows me to use a medium stroke and retain control of my cue.

Valley table with regular maintanance and decent cloth I'm hitting the second ball with moderate speed (6 out of 10) every time.

Poor cloth I'll hit what ever works most often.

in 8 ball i usually aim for the second ball with low inside at a medium to hard stroke to go off the right rail and back into the rack. and pray i dont get stuck or scratch. This is on a medium to fast table cloth.

Other wise i just put the ball in the middle at the second diamond and swing away as hard as i can and still kill it at the head ball.
