Bar Box monsters

I'm 66 and from B'ham, been around pool for 50 years. I've seen lots of gamblers here but
I've never seen any of 'em run more than 2 racks. They may have but I didn't see it.
Hell, I've broke and ran 1 rack and almost ran out on the second but didn't, even though
I have high run of 26 in straight pool, I'm talking about 8 or 9 ball.
Now, in 1999 I moved to Denver and stayed there till '06. I saw several folks running
2 & 3 racks regularly, and then, then I got to watch Danny Medina. Nuff said?

Garczar spoke of Tracy Joe Salazar being a great bar box player. Just curious, Is Joe Salazar full name Tracy Joe Salazar or they two different people. Thanks

LiL David (Howard) Dallas West(ran 9n out on Shupit at my tourn. Larry Hubbart,James Walden and Jessie Bowman. and Allan Hopkins. Many guys played good But Shane,Dave M.,Kieth and Dennis play awfually good.

I can’t think of the name of the guy who came through town in the late 80’s that just crushed it on little tables. He has had all kind of health issues including a recent heart attack so quite a few people were surprised to see him at the derby a couple of years ago. I want to say that maybe he lost part of a foot or leg?? I saw him run multiple 6 packs on the bar box and at least one ten pack. His break was so strong anyone could run out if he broke. But for the life of me I can’t think of his name. I was sure someone would’ve mentioned him by now. Anyone have any idea who I’m talking about?

Larry Nevel?

I like threads like this, because it reminds me of a time about 7-10yrs ago that I followed some okay players on the BB.

The Music City open comes to mind - Out there at J.O.B. in Nashville, Barbox was big back then.

Jesse Bowman and Sparky Ferrell have an okay match linked above.

Also would like to include, Joey Gray, Chip Compton, Shane for sure, and Sky

I think Sparky owns a barber-shop now. Don't know what Bowman's up to. Haven't heard anything about him in a while.

He has to be older than that. I’m thinking at least ten years. Was I remembering right about losing a leg or something?

I watched a stream with a Larry Nevel in a wheelchair making some great shots. It was Mad Apple Streaming, good stream and some good players

Johnny I wonder if we crossed paths. I was in Denver off and on from 1990-2004 solidly from 1999-2004 until I moved to Ca.
What was unique about Denver during that time is that there were a lot of really good players. Not a lot of true champions. Island Drive and Danny M were two of them. But there were hundreds and hundreds that would regularly hit you with a 2-pack.
The main reason was that several bar owners - Terry McFadden, Lief Jensen, Alex Johnson, and several others formed the CBA and coordinated tournaments and met to handicap players monthly. This led to a bunch of us being able to play 6-7 nights a week. We all fed off of each other and challenged each other and it became a good farm system for players. Almost all of the regular players from those days are AA or AAA players now.

Who were some of the Incredibly strong bar box players over the years? The area where I live pretty much is exclusively bar box tournaments(tournaments on 9 ft tables have almost totally disappeared) so I was thinking about checking out videos for players the good folks here think of as primarily bar box specialists. Many Thanks,Mike S.
Any monster on a 9 foot or 10 foot table is likely to be the same on a 7 footer, even if they don’t play on it that much. They simply don’t need to because everything is easier on the smaller table and their cue ball control is so fine tuned.

Case in point – the top 3 current US 9-ball / 10-ball players on a big table most would agree are Shane, Skyler and Justin. I’d say those same three would likely be the top 3 US players right now on a barbox.

Of course any of those three would prefer to match up against anyone else on a bigger table, where their superior skills will more likely prevail. But as long as the race is long enough, any of those three would still be the favorite when playing against anyone else on a smaller table.
