Bathroom breaks at the U.S. Open

its hard to control or stop someone from having a real need. but if his opponent doesnt complain then nothing should be a problem.
if you think its sharking shark him back your way.

or the real way to run a tournament that seems to go too slow because of the players, just give each player a time bank to use as they see fit. if they run out of time the match is over.

why should a player that plays fast against a slow one get penalized for taking longer breaks. he deserves the same table time as the other in the match.
Most pro players will not complain but not because they don't feel it's unfair. It's because they don't want it to get into their head while they're playing a match and let it affect their playing, but they will say something to somebody after the match is over. This whole idea of taking as many breaks as you want will not last. It's ridiculous.

time bank for each player each set. simple, fair and keeps the game moving.
stupidest thing in the world having a time clock for each shot. that is for team sports.

and any player that lets things get in their head that causes them to lose or not play well are not going anywhere in the sport anyway. as competition isnt for them.

Timed sets would take care of the scheduling the scientific way. Race to an hour anyone?
There are also ways to get around stalling - mmaaybe.

you cant have a timed set as the player ahead will stall as the proper strategy.
a time bank gives each player the same amount to take as they want. when its gone the match is over and they lose.

You could have both. Debit each player for table time and assign a point value that will figure into advancement.

This was in effect last year in Vegas at BCA worlds. I know of a couple of people that lost due to having to go to the bathroom.

cool. did you play on a live broadcast tv stream with 60k on the line?
Look, you can spin this any way you want, but with a rule that states you can leave the table as many times as you want during your match, people will abuse it. There have to be restrictions.

Human rights issue to take as many breaks as you want? Seriously? Has Matchroom gone woke? And to think --- back in the 80s guys were upset when they had to play against Jean Balukas because their egos would be bruised if she beat them. So now you're saying guys will be upset if they can't go pee 8 times during their match. Times sure have changed. LOL!

once again, if you're talking about the commercial break it has zero effect on anything if a player walks away from his seat. the argument that the girl tour had a rule in the 1980's, for some taped matches, is weak to say the least.

if you were referring to the outer tables you would make more sense, because that does have an effect on match length.

I'm referring to both. How long is a commercial break where they can't sit in their chair and relax for a minute or a couple? Are they that desperate to run out for a smoke or a drink or a pee all those times?

The draconian restrictions imposed by the WPA rules are far worse. Players were willingly giving up games just to go to the bathroom.

Maybe MR listened to the players, instead of treating them like their subjects. Then, of course, some pool players may be taking it too far, as they do.

i think they're 3 minutes, the ad breaks. i for my part don't care what the players do, how big their bladders are, if they smoke, talk to their coach etc. drinking alcohol isn't allowed, to my knowledge. i would care if it slowed down the match, but it doesn't.

shouldn't that be the main point, prohibiting excessively slow matches and gamesmanship?

Damn, man
I hope that isn't your final answer.

Which players chose bathroom at cost of games?

I missed that discussion.

Oh my goodness... three whole minutes in your chair! Oh the humanity! I guess you never played 14.1 against a good player.

I think they sort of copied the potty break rule from snooker. It's a little different there because you are guaranteed some dead time after each frame as the balls are reset. On the other hand, I've seen a pro snooker player leave in the middle of a long frame with a, "Sorry, I've got to go," and only mild comment about his departure.
