BeCue - Chris Abaya Review

Recently I bought a BeCue from Chris Abaya out of Sacramento California. Before I tell you about the cue itself, I wanted to say a few things about Chris.

1. I am afraid he may not make it as a cue maker, his communication skills are way too good. lol :thumbup: Kept me informed the whole way, answered all questions in a timely manner. Everything you could ask for.

2. Very easy to deal with, packaged everything well, shipped fast, and provided tracking.

Now to the cue itself.

The woods were Highly figured, ringwork was elegant and even, everything fits together snug, and it plays very well. Everything about the cue screamed quality.

The butt diameter of the cue is PERFECT! This is a big deal to me, when looking for a cue.

I am a big fan of his choice of taper and shaft size. It made for a nice, clean, stiff hit that still had feel. I let 10 different people play with the cue and everyone liked it. Only complaint I got was one of the old schooler's said the cue should be 58 inches and the ferrule should be 1 inch long. I like Masonh's ferrules and the extra inch was nice since I only play on big tables anyway.


I logged over 24 hours with the cue since last Friday. Played lots of 1 Pocket, Straight pool, and 9 ball. I never once wondered how the cue would react in situations, it was like picking up a cue that I had played with for years.

All in all. He makes one hell of a good player and seems to be a great guy. I already am pestering him for a Purple Heart cue with the same specs.

Nice review. Short, concise and to the point. Nice lookin cue too! I hope the orders for Chris come rollin in! Sure did catch my eye.
 
Nice review and the cue looks good as well. The list will just get longer from here.

I need to remind myself to tell Chris that the next 10 cues he makes are sold to me. ;)

I tried to work a multi cue deal before I posted the review. Thought about not sharing my new secret. lol

He doesn't take orders unfortunately, as he works full time. I promise you that when people start playing with them, he will have to take some

No problem buddy, You deserve it!

I have alot of nice cues, all much much more expensive than yours and your cue plays right up there with any of them

Hopefully you will give cue making a serious go, because I can't imagine anyone being unsatisfied.

Thank you. I did not apprentice under another cuemaker but I did get a lot of good instructions and advice from some of the best. Eric Crisp (Sugartree), Jackon Tan of Viattorre Cues are the two builders that got me started and basically walked me thru and answered most of my initial questions regarding cuemaking but I did read up Hightower's Cue Building book first. I also learned a lot from reading posts by many experience makers here at AZB - Blackheart, Dick Neighbors, Arnot, Joey G, BHQ, Tony Zincola, Bob@dzcues, the late Edwin Reyes, etc just to name a few. I've also talked with several other makers on the phone - Kenny Murrell, Arnot, Joe baker are the names I can remember. Basically, trying out a lot of the stuff I read from the posts and learning which ones are true (which was most of them) and which ones are not. I am still learning and will continue to build cues until I no longer enjoy doing it.

That's quite the list of influences! i can see the "crispyness" in your wood selection. lol
