If ya drink ya know what I mean.

Maybe "drink curve" works better for some.

Do you have one?Have faith it it?Rely on it?

For those who don't drink imagine a line graph moving up in a with some steadiness.....hitting a flat spot...and then falling off in a large way.

I know many here take this game very seriously and save the drinks for later...but its there...
And Some days I love it...some days I hate it.

If I'm playing for big money, I only have about three before I start. I then have one about every 20 minutes. I usually need at least three to take off the edge.

If I'm playing $1 a game with friends, then HOLD ON! It's going down quickly.

Thunderball,

I've gotten the beer just right on the dipstick a few times.....lots of fun :) ......kind of makes me hate my money in the long run though.....:)

I had one the other night before I played, and sucked it up bad. I will never drink then play again, that is till I can drink and play.

Around here we call it the "Drunken Master":D I've hit the sweet spot a few times, when you get just the right mix of gin and tonics and Budweisers you become unstopable

Alright I'm going to need a pitcher of beer and glasses for everyone. I'll need you to bring a pitcher every 7 minutes until someone passes out and then bring them every 12 minutes....

I'm worried about Lou.... he might lose his trigger finger...

I've been threatening to have a drinking pool tournament for a long time. I've always complained when I go to tournaments that I'm the only one drinking. (maybe one or two others) I'm mean a drinking tournament for decent players. I play the drunks at the bar all the time. Hell, I can beat them when I'm sober!

What do ya say? 3 beers during each match. One double shot of whisky if you win the match. That should do it. I figure I'll go rather high in the calcutta, however I also thought there would be a lot of competition, but if the number of responses to this thread is any indication?

There is a very knowledgable older player who I have played on the same team with. He is a strong player and can teach alot about the game. However he feels that he needs that initial 4-5 beer buzz and after he gets to 5 beers he slows to one per hour. Well by then he is three sheets to the wind and misses easy shots, always goes for it, never plays safe and really costs the team. That I cannot take.

Another good friend of mine was sitting on the point of the WesternBCA Open 'A' tourney bracket a few years back after getting through over 100 players to get there. While he was waiting on the point for the losers bracket to get back to him, bout a 3 hour wait, he decided to celebrate and have a few cocktails. Three beers and 3 shots of jager later he started the finals and got double dipped by a player he should run over. He admits that it was his fault and that the alcohol played a factor in his loss.

My beer zone is between three and six, after six my play seems to drop off a little. I still play well after six but my shot selection suffers over six beers and really suffers when I fall down. I sstart schlurrring my speeech an ttennd to luz moonneey an summtimess mi ppannts.

Yesterday was the first day I had a drink before a tourny...Played damn well in my first match after that went down hill...

Captain, I know where you are coming from. A couple of months ago I went to a Saturday 8 Ball tourney that started at 9:30AM. I arrived at about 9:00AM and ordered a beer, the bartender said thank God there was a drinker in the tournament. All the other guys were drinking coffee but I made a friend that day, she is pretty cute too.

Seymore, No, my local pool room is maybe 400 steps from the house. Very convenient.

That is convenient! But still, I don't drink when I play...ever, I think it's a bad idea altogether. Don't get me wrong, I love to drink; I just keep it seperate.

I've always found it funny when people tell me that they play better when they drink. Let's see. Alcohol impairs judgment and motor-skills. Ahh yes. That's just what you need to play your best pool!

I have had 1 drink before a match in an attempt to calm my nerves a little but, even after just one drink, I could feel it enough that I wondered if I was doing more harm than good.

I like between 3-6 drinks. Thats my comfort zone. After 7 or 8 drinks I start to break timing and move too fast. For beer its a six pack. Once I exceed a 6 pack I get careless.

My drink of choice for the last 6 years or so has been bourbon and diet. If anyone is familiar with me in Athens then you know that I usually black out at around 11 or so, just before we really "go out". The time period between 9 and 11 though, roughly drinks 3-10, I shoot like burning hell. Seriously, my game goes up at least 2 balls. I've won the most amounts of money in big sets during this time frame. If I could only stop at the end of this zone it would be better. At a certain point, the graph starts going downward, usually right about the time I black out. In this mode, the balls appear fuzzy when you bend down to shoot. When this starts to happen, I usually settle with whomever I'm playing for half of what they owe me and move to the next bar.

It ussually only takes me about two beers to settle me down when I'm nervous. Then I drink 1 or 2 per hour after that. I dont always get nervous tho. It depends on how big the match is, the bigger the match, the more it helps settle me down. I would say I can play pretty good up till about beer 8. I ussually can realize this and then slow my drinking way down. I have had several occasions when I know alcohol was a factor in my poor play when I ignored the signs and drank all day and night and sucked in the end. The next day I wake up and swear off alcohol. Then about a week later the beers taste as good as ever.

I would probably become a better player if I never touched the stuff. But, I'm not ready to make that kind of commitment to pool. Some day I will.
