Behind the scenes on Friday

Diks is on the hill against Gabe Owen who's got 6.

Marcus Chamat is on the hill too against Alex Pagulayan who's also got 6.

Appelton won his match and will play The Russian Stalev next. The winner of this match will go through.

Stay tuned. Things are REALLY heating up here!

All americans out

According to what I'm seeing, there is no way any of the Americans can make it, based on the percentages. Anyway, looks like nobody can stop Efren...
Great job for Nevel and Matlock to get this far.
Thanks again for the reports!

Can someone explain one more time the tie-breaker.

If Manalo loses to Diks he will end up on 3 wins.
If Chamat beats Hohmann he will have 4 wins and go through, Hohmann will have 3 wins and be tied with Manalo for the 2nd and final spot.

Hohmann beat Manalo in this group but Manalo win percentage is much higher.
Does Manalo still go through?

Yes Manalo is still in by virtue of his winning percentage.
The winning percentage is an accumulated one since Day 1 of
the tournament. The higher your percentage on your earlier wins
the much better position you are to win in case of tie breakers.

Look at the bottom of scoresheet and you will see their winning
percentage thus far.

Manalo goes through no matter what; whoever wins between Chamat and Hohmann takes the second spot (because the loser's percentage won't change enough to displace Manalo's comfortable lead).

What a festive mood it is here between rounds. Even though Bustamante is out, he's out in the hallways mingling with the crowd and friends. Efren Reyes is even getting in on the fun. While photographers and fans were snapping pictures left and right, Bustie stood up on a platform and was dancing to the music. Man, why did I leave my camera back in the room!

I was chatting with Sandor Tot who stated that he thought the time change played a role in his performance during the week. He said that 84 hours of pool is a grueling schedule, and he was hoping that next event, they'd take a one-day hiatus during the tournament week to allow the players to rest up. Sandor stated that each day, he came out of the gate strong and played well, and then he just plain ran out of gas. He's 34 years old and still young, but even for this young'n, the IPT schedule can take a toll.

At 9:00 p.m., Jon Denny, the official IPT executive producer, is going out on the infamous strip here in Vegas to snap some pictures of the players dressed in black. I also heard that on Sunday or Monday morning on ESPN, there will be IPT coverage.

Pool is on the rise as a sport, and the players here in attendance are all excited to be a part of it. For players like young Austin Murphy of California, his future sure does look bright!

Kevin Trudeau truley deserves a great big thankyou. He's put up a lot of his own money towards making pool a legitmate sport. It's is my hope that the sponsers get on board and the TV ratings climb so that Mr. Trudeau can make some money for his efforts or at least break even.

Either way I hope Mr. Trudeau is inducted into the Hall of Fame one day for what he is doing for pool and for unequalled generosity towards the players.

I think the overall reaction to Mr. Trudeau's contributions to the sport should be somewhat tempered, at least at this point. I pause only in light of Mr. Trudeau's background.

There's an old saying: if something's too good to be true, it usually is.

Appleton and Stalev are on the TV table. At the time of this writing, the score is 2-zip, Russian's favor.

Russian 5, Appleton 1.

Keith just told me that Stalev ran a 4-bagger on Appleton to get to 4-zip.

Hi,
I sent u a PM but it is not going thru because your storage space is full.

Larry Nevel suffers defeat against The Magician, 8 to 4.

Efren is undefeated in this round.

I spoke to Larry immediately after the match. He said that anybody who can make a ball on the break will do well on the IPT. Against Efren, Larry never missed a ball, and Efren missed one shot. Yet, Efren made more balls on the break than Larry and wins the round.

Nevel said he only played one match on the TV table against Shawn Putnam and won the match 8 to 2. After the match, the media ran to Shawn and interviewed him, asking why he didn't win. Larry Nevel is one of the best American players today. Yet, the media seems to swarm around others, neglecting the quote/unquote "unknowns."

Larry won a qualifier to compete at the next event in Reno. So we ain't seen the last of him yet, and I can assure you that he'll be back in the driver's seat again.
