Behind the scenes on Friday

nice tidbit of info tanner... makes you go 'hmmm' about those guys who play once a week yet claim to hit the 8 on the break twice a month.

I agree, and I think the players must realize that when there is a tie, the previous tournament play will figure in to who advances. For instance, if a player loses two rounds and wins the next two rounds, if he is tied and has a better tournament performance on the percentages, then he will advance. Never give up the ship!

You might want to note that there are actually 3 more rounds at the time of your writing. There are six players in each group and they play 5 rounds each. A 3-2 record for someone with a high winning percentage might get them through but those with the lower winning percentages are going to have to go 4-1.
(The only way for someone to get through with 2 wins is if one player is 5-0 and the other five go 2-3, then the one with the highest winning percentage at 2-3 would go through.)

Wayne, you're right, of course. There are six players in each round, so the next three rounds give each one of them hope.

BTW, last night we were eating dinner at the Rio, where the poker tournament is happening. That place is packed with poker contenders. I struck up a conversation with the gentleman sitting next to me, and he said he was here in Vegas to play in the poker tournament. He's been playing poker professionally for 5 years. That's all he does, and he said if I watched the "travel channel," that I would have seen him on TV in the final rounds. His name was Tom Snyder (sp).

Keith joined in the conversation, and we were telling him about our pool tournament over at the Venetian. He said, "Yeah. I've been watching the pool on TV." Of course, I was waiting for him to talk about the lady pros, but I was pleasantly surprised when he said he was watching something called "The King of the Hill." Then Keith chimed in that he was in that event, and Tom Snyder then immediately recognized Keith.

Pool is on the map, folks, and it's getting bigger and bigger as time goes on. This is only the beginning. There are sponsors, media, and all kinds of industry members here. Reno is only a month away, and everyone is already making plans, much like Kelly Fisher and Liljon, to get in dead-punch stroke.

In case anybody hasn't said it...

THANK YOU, KEVIN TRUDEAU!

Kevin Trudeau's vision has become a reality! Pool is a legitimate sport, and the players are now recognized as professional athletes.

Mike the Mouth versus Mike the Mouth for 100 grand.

Mike Sigel and "Mike the Mouth," a poker player, are getting ready to play each other. The media is in full bloom.

I'll go check out Appleton's match right now.

Kevin Trudeau truley deserves a great big thankyou. He's put up a lot of his own money towards making pool a legitmate sport. It's is my hope that the sponsers get on board and the TV ratings climb so that Mr. Trudeau can make some money for his efforts or at least break even.

Either way I hope Mr. Trudeau is inducted into the Hall of Fame one day for what he is doing for pool and for unequalled generosity towards the players.

Appleton is at the table shooting, but he's stuck against Efren Reyes at the time of this writing, 5 to 2.

Wow, what a day! Lots of upsets and lots of victories.

Here's a little hearsay that came my way. Next IPT event in Reno, the last-place finisher was supposed to receive $5,000. However, due to the forfeits and no-shows at this event, the IPT has amended the payouts.

From now on, the payouts will be based on the player's ranking and percentage from this event and the next one. This rule has been changed so that players will see the importance of playing every single match.

So, depending on the ranking, a last-place finisher could receive more than $5,000, but if he doesn't show up for a match, then he may receive considerably less than the original $5,000.

What do y'all think about that?

JAM

That was suggested here earlier in the week (by Craig I believe) after Ginky failed to show and I started a thread on Inside Pool.

I think it is a great idea.

In a 6 person group instead of the last 3 getting $5,000 each you can spread it out to 6-5-4 depending on their win percentage. Fail to show up and you automatically get the lowest amount.

It sure would make everyone play his best for every game.

Do you think perhaps the IPT staff picked that up from Craig's post?

KT has to be a shoe in for the BCA Hall of Fame in 2007 for his contribution in promoting the game.

This year they didn't even nominate anyone for that catagory.

Well, the two Mouths are chattering away at the table. A quick glance at the Poker Mouth, he doesn't have much of a stroke. Now Sigel Mouth is requesting a game of poker with Poker Mouth. Sigel just pulled out a deck of cards and said he's ready to play. Poker Mouth and Pool Mouth are, well, just that, all mouth and no action at the time of this writing.

Results Update...Round 3....3.55pm

Gabe 6-3 Hohmann
Matlock 4-3 Souquet
Manalo 4-3 Chamat
Luat 8-3 Evgeny
Orcollo 5-3 Busta
Appleton 4-5 Efren
Peach 4-2 Alcano
Pagulayan 3-3 Diks

Hann lost...kind of wasn't there after 2 losses.

Not much tension or excitement here now...maybe will pick up as it gets to round 5.

The two Mouths, with a capital "M," of course, are barking away at each other. Sigel tells Mike the Mouth the poker player that he's holding out on him, showing a little speed in one of his shots. They're playing a "friendly" game of pool now, having a good time.

As I'm back here in Cyber Cafe, I just heard a loud round of applause, wondering if it's an almighty win or just a good shot.
