Seahawks' tackle being investigated in domestic case

SEATTLE (AP) -- Seahawks starting right tackle Sean Locklear was being held without bail Monday in the King County Jail for investigation of domestic violence assault, police and the team said.
Locklear, 24, a third-round draft choice out of North Carolina State in 2004, was booked early Sunday, hours after playing in the team's 20-10 playoff win over the Washington Redskins.
Seattle police were investigating an unrelated incident about 1 a.m. Sunday when three people told them a man was assaulting a woman on a nearby sidewalk. Police said the two involved were Locklear and a woman identified as his girlfriend. Her name was redacted from the police report.
According to the police report, the woman said she and Locklear had been at Belltown Billiards with friends when the player grew angry because she was dancing with another man.
He confronted her and they walked outside as she tried to tell him she had done nothing wrong but "this just upset him further," according to the report.
As they walked down the sidewalk, "Locklear grabbed her around the neck," the police report said. Officers wrote that they observed visible redness on her neck and chest. The woman then began to cry and refused to provide more information, telling police, "He didn't do anything."
She refused to let police photograph her injuries or to provide a written statement, the police report said. She also declined medical attention.
The three witnesses who initially summoned police said they saw the man grab the woman around the neck, "putting both hands around her neck," according to the report.
Police said Locklear confirmed he and the woman had been arguing but said he grabbed her by the front of her shirt, not her neck. He made no further comments, police said.
It was not immediately known whether Locklear had retained a lawyer. He was awaiting an appearance before a judge, which would not occur until after Monday's Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday.
Locklear's status for the NFC championship game against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday was unclear. But coach Mike Holmgren said he didn't think the incident would be a distraction to his team.
"What I know about it so far -- and I don't know everything -- it should not be," Holmgren said Monday, without specifically addressing Locklear's playing status.
"I have to wait on details on that. I am aware of the situation. But right now, I have no comment. When we get more information, [we] will give it to you."

Do they actually dance in Belltown Billiards? :D

Thanks for sharing the article. Imagine what he would have done to the poor gal if Seahawks got beat by the Redskins! :o

Never played there but walked by it last spring. It looked like a place where people would dance FWIW.

As to the other thing, there are several red flags that this is a sign of a real problem. Disclaimer: we don't know all the facts, etc.... But to put hands around a woman's neck in public over a jealosy issue raises all kinds of questions in the domestic violence context. Strangling is pretty dangerous and is often a sign something is really wrong. Don't know enough to say for sure here, case is being investigated etc.... But I have seen too many bad cases to think it is that funny.

I don't remember seeing any dancing when I played at Belltown Billiards, but they had a damn fine jazz band plaing in there one night.

That is a fun place to play... but serious practice should be done elsewhere.

Go Carolina!!!!! Sorry, couldn't resist.

With the Redskins dead in the water, I'm now rooting for the Panthers, Davidhop! At least they're below the Mason-Dixon Line! :D

Live music in pool rooms? That would be very distracting for serious players, I would think.

Having said that, there have been some occasions where I thought some soft background music at tournaments would be nice in some settings.

Hey Jam!

I use to live in Seattle and on friday night Belltown would be crackin, They have a nice little dance floor and a good DJ. A bit on the pricey side though.

Yeah, they dance there, if that's what you can call it! It's definitely a meat market. I went there a few months ago with a group of 5 gals for a bachelorette party (the 2nd half of it anyway! ) and 2 of us played pool and the rest danced. Trying to squeeze through that madhouse takes 10 minutes just to make it to the door. Not to mention 2 of our party threw up on the way home. I was the designated driver and had to pull over for one of them, lol.

I have tried getting tournaments there for our regional tour, but they are not interested in any REAL pool. I am barred from their one weeknight tournament they have. The TD is a good friend of mine, Ford, the ref from Reno, and he won't let me play. Most players there are ball bangers. It has exposed pipes and a certain grunge look, but it is pretty popular. We also have another place like that complete with a bowling alley called The Garage, and then of course, there is Jillian's.

It's too bad that men who make their living in a brutal sport which we condone, can't leave the brutality in the sports arenas. I know she is keeping quiet so his chances for the playoffs aren't cut off, and therefore his pay. But hey, maybe in the long run, she will get a bigger divorce settlement.
<Being totally flippant here, as I am outraged at violence against women!>

Go Hawks!

The Skins were just an appetizer before the main course of Panther!
I predict it will be a close game, but the Hawks will win it and advance to the superbowl. Score..... 27-17. I hope we play the Steelers in the Superbowl.

Belltown Billiards USED to be a good place to play. For the last several years they have sold out into becoming a Nightclub with pooltables instead of a pool room that has music and entertainment.

As far as LockLear, who knows what really happened, only they do. In Washington State any type of Domestic Violence call results in someone going to jail, even if both party's concur that no violence occurred. It's the law, to separate the individuals and let people cool off.

Consider that a compliment tho if you're not allowed to play in a tourney. His tourneys are for B players and below (or so I've heard). I never go there because parking in Seattle sucks, and I don't need the extra aggravation of driving around for half an hour looking for somewhere to park. I get enough of that as it is.

I've never been to the Garage, same reasons as above. I've heard the tables are really close together tho.

Well as to Belltown Billiards, it is a night club not a pool hall. The DJ are a bunch of kids...... And I am not into all that noise, sorry......

As to Jillians, it is mostly a sports bar now with TV on the wall with all kinds of sports on, not my cup of tea..... Has not been the same since the WPBA stopped playing there a few years ago.

The best pool hall in the Seattle used to be the 211 Club, but it closed in the late 80's. It was the oldest pool hall West of the Mississippi. :D

The best place in the Seattle area is Parlor Billiards & Spirits, which is 10-20 minutes east of Seattle in Bellevue on the 3rd floor of the Lincoln Square. The house pro is Dan Louie, more info at: http://www.parlorbilliards.com/

Look at page 43-44 of the P&B January 2006 issue. :D

Yeah, Parlor is sweet, but a little too crowded and yuppitized for me. I like Uncle Jack's now that it is redone and the new owner is very accommodating to players. They have re-done the inside and it has a nice big fireplace and a couple lounging areas for conversation and espresso.

And of course, Harvey's in the southend, since they are one of my sponsors! ;) Oh, and I play BCA for Vintage Billiards in Federal Way.
