Can anyone tell me about cues built by Bernard Dews? I had an individual offer me a cue he said was built by him, and he said he is a builder in the Black Boar shop with Tony. I do not know of him.

Basically, does anyone have any experience/knowledge with Bernard Dew cues?

Can anyone verify that he is a cue builder with Tony Sciannela at Black Boar?

Any input appreciated.

I think he lives up in the mountains.

His cues hit sweet.

They call them Mountain Dews up where he is from.

Honestly, never heard of the gentleman. Lots of cues coming up on here now that are made by makers that are too well known.

I've came to the conclusion, that a cue is a piece of wood, except for the shaft and tip. It doesn't take a big name maker to make a player.

But ya'd have to be silly to think a cue made in some no-name's garage is going to equal the quality from some no name black boar shop hand.

Isn’t that how many custom cue maker start out working under a master? Look at Joel Hercek under with Burton Spain until he passed away in the mid 90’s.

I'm not sure this is exactly the same. Before Burt passed, he sold his cuemaking business to Chicago-area cuemaker Joel Hercek. Along with the sale of the equipment, Burton stayed on as long as he could to train Joel in all aspects of cuemaking.

In other words, Joel didn't start out "under a master." Joel was already a cuemaker, bought Burton's business (as Burton was terminally ill), and Burton further trained him.

But I guess I'm just nitpicking at this point. But, I read a lot of "so-and-so taught whomever," but it's not quite the case.

Pete and George ?

I have to admit - I've learned a LOT of names since I joined here. Too bad I'm too old to remember them. :(

Just so we are clear on this, it has been confirmed that Bernard Dews is NOT an apprentice to Tony at Black Boar.
