Best 1p player?

I wish I could have seen that. I've got to get to the DCC next year so I can see some of this stuff happen. I haven't been able to see Efren play 1P since way back in Chicago, when he first started.

Are there any good tapes of him playing at his best?

I think you are getting pretty close with this list. I would probably put Parica in the group with Frost and company. I've been amazed by Efren and others at times with their vision and ability but watching Cory read stacks and track ball patterns is something else. He sells out occasionally but he sees some shots that boggle the mind. He is going to only get better.

Ktown, Yeah, I think people underrate Coreys one pocket game partly because as you said, he'll sell out a lot while indulging himself, shooting some shots that he shouldn't shoot....But, if he ever played a little tighter/and wanted it enough, I think he's got the skills to be tied for second best with Cliff.

Toby can sure play. His one handed game is jamup too. I snuck away from a las vegas business convention and watched Toby playing $500 a game 1P one handed and it was just AWESOME.

Jay, how was Toby playing Efren the time he won that 10k? What year was that?

Yeah, Toby plays jam-up, I should have put him somewhere in the middle of my list.

9/5

Gerry, Just give me 5 to 1 on the money, and you've got your 9/5 ^_^

Efren tried to give him 9-6. It was a heist. Like 2002 or 3.

Yes, Efren is still top dog.

I don't know how Jose is playing these days, but he has to be near the top too, with Cliff and Scott Frost. Same with Buddy, up to a few years ago he was right there with the best. So were Sigel, Varner and Allen. How close to Cliff and Scott today, I'm not sure. But I have a feeling Cliff doesn't want to give too much weight to Nick, Allen or Buddy, even today.

Other top guys have to include Jeremy, Alex and Corey. Maybe right behind the top three. One guy no one has mentioned, but if you ever see him in action, he will open your eyes, is Stalev from Russia. He may actually be the best One Pocket player in the world right now, including Efren. I heard he challenged Efren a few years ago and got turned down. Don't know for sure.

Stalev is kind of a mystery man, rarely appearing here or anywhere for that matter. I'd like to match them up myself. Maybe I'll work on it for Derby City.

You better evaluate Stalev's game a little more. I played him at Hollywood Billiards a couple of years ago. I offered to play him even at $20 a game but he wanted to play $100 a game so I got him to give me 9-7. I finished 6 games up in a long session. He came back the next night with fire in his eyes and we played the same game. I beat him 4 straight and his backer pulled up.

I think you got the wrong game that Efren turned down. I saw Stalev offer to play Efren scratch pool for big bucks and Efren just laughed and said NO, Stalev would need a lot of weight in one-pocket.

Thanks Wayne. I heard a different story about Stalev and Efren. I know how you play, probably a few balls under Efren. Maybe Stalev does not belong in this class. And maybe you play better than you think.

He came to my poolroom and easily beat Cecil at $50 a game. Of course, you probably could beat Cecil now too.

I know he's a one of the best in the world, but that's a lot of 'swing' words.

Efren, Cliff, Parica, Scott and Gabe would be my list

Wayne who? Thanks. Also, Toby who? Thanks, again.
If it's none of my business, please tell me that in a
nice way. I'm having a rough week.

Wayne Pulliam I believe, a damn good player (I want 8-7 and the break sir) and Little Toby from Oklahoma. I don't even know his last name. He used to be co-owner of the Cue Club in Vegas.

He beat Archie the Greek out of 200K and bought in.

Jay,

I think it was Flaherty. Wasn't Toby, Henry's "son in law"?

I watched Corey barbeque Scott Frost at the DCC this year. To be fair Scott was playing with a borrowed cue. Corey looked like he didn't break a sweat though.

I watched him last year drive Frost nuts & yet he seemed
to be playing every ball to go!

Thanks Eric. I had forgotten. Short term memory loss and all that.
You are correct on both counts. He did marry Julie Nogiec. Now divorced and remarried to an Asian gal.
