Best all around tip maintenance tool...

I have always maintaned that two of the best tip tools that one can keep in their case is a Willards nickel or dime shaper and a small curved shaper that holds sand paper.

There is a tool called the Sandman which is a curved shaper only with permanent grit instead of having to change sand paper.

Joel has a great product and looks like he has it covered with his new multi sided tip tool.
The price is certainly right and it is made to last.

With the curved shaper, you can also remove the mushroom on a tip. You just have to mind the ferrule when doing it.

You absolutely do not need a fancy do all gadget like the Snake Bite or any of the others. Mostly just gimmicks is all they are.

Multi Purpose Cue Tip Tool are like some FISHING LURES, they catch more Fisherman than Fish.

Good quote and very true.

Ken...You're thinking of something else. The Last4Ever tip shaping tool has nothing to do with putting tips on cues...just shaping them easily. It gets my vote as the BEST tip tool available anywhere.

It is. When I clamp it on I protect the shaft with thin card board. If you clamp it too tight you can put a ding in the shaft.

For tip maintenance I still prefer the Ultimate Cue Tip tool and use a tip pick.

When I need a tip replaced on my Z-2 I take my shafts to Schon now.

Best tip tool on the market today is the Last4ever tip tool. I've owned quite a few of other ones, and nothing works better.

Best All Around

You start by saying best all around, then mention removing glue and leaving Ferrule perfectly flat.

I have found:

1) Rapid Cue Top Sander -

Works well to remove glue and leave ferrule flat. I put thin card like material around the shaft to avoid scratching and turn shaft often between short sanding intervals.

2) Rubber Band:

Works well to put pressure on new tip and hold it in place while gluing tip. I tend to let a tip set 24 + hours before working on same.

3) Big Shaver:

Works great on trimming new tip on side to get even with ferrule. Have to be careful setting to avoid cutting ferrule - but this is easy to set with depth screw. This also goes a long way to shape a new tip.

4) Cue Shark Pup:

Great maintenance tool and easy to carry to the pool hall. The ends with the tip shaper material is tough. Mine looks new - added a little chalk (I have had it for quite a while).

- By the way - I bought one of the ATROX tools, and although price was high - this does do a decent job shaping a tip and has a good tip pick. The rest is of the atributes are way oversold for their usefulness. (Who would walk into a pool hall, check the rail height and complain ?? This might get your thumbs broke.)

:D

I do. I know the perfect tool. it's cheap and works dead perfect every time.

let's see if someone else can tell you what it is before I do. since you're always so nice I will let you search around for the answer.

Awww, and I've never been anything other than complimentary about your comic genius and standards of self love.

As you're such a great googler - knowing everything about Thai society in seconds, for instance - I was hoping you'd search the answer for me. :(

Thanks. It was me who hijacked the thread with wanting a perfectly flat ferrule. I'll check out the Rapid Sander - looks exactly what I'm after. A friend of mine has the Porper one, which I'm not impressed by, especially for that price. It works well enough, I suppose, but I found it a bit difficult to use.

The flat bit you use to grind the old tip off and level the ferrule is excellent, however.

Thanks to all

Thanks for the great comments about the Last 4 Ever tip tool. Based on my recent orders of multiple tools, people are either eating them or using them as stocking stuffers for their pool buddies. Regardless, I appreciate all the support from the AZ crowd.

Hope you all have a great holiday season and a great new year.

I have one that is the dead nuts for getting the tip and ferrule perfectly flat. The best that I have ever come across for a handheld tool in 20 years of doing this.

If anyone wants to know what it is and where to get it send me a pm or email to jb@jbideas.com if my box is full.

Anyone except you Tiger.

After the tip is installed and shaped by the cue maker the only thing that I ever do is apply chalk. Don't have any need to constantly shape, pick and etc. I use a hard layered tip and it holds it shape. If I miss or miscue it is a problem with my stroke or aim. It has nothing to do with my tip being out of shape.

In the long run it will save you money from having to replace the tip that you wore down from constantly "shaping" and buying shapers that are not needed.

If you feel you need a tip shaper get the Wiliard

http://www.seyberts.com/products/Willards_Shaper-62-24.html.

It is all you will ever need, also serves as a pocket marker.
