Hey SJM,

Joey K and Eddie wouldn't be considered pro? If that's the case NYC is a whole lot tougher than I ever imagined :)

Koop

Yes, I think I would label both as pro but herein lies the next debate: What is a professional pool player? (Please don't answer that!)

Illinois.......James Baraks, Jesse Bowman, Marco Marquez (sp?).

Yes, they both play pro speed. Actually, Joey K just beat Archer at Valley Forge, and may need to be called a pro within 24 hours. Eddie Vasquez eliminated John Schmidt at the Big Apple Nine Ball challenge last summer, so he can play a little, too, but he's an action player more than a tournament player.

To play pro speed is not to be pro. There are probably two hundred in America who play pro speed but are not pro.

There is no firm definition of a pro player. Although anyone having pro pool as their primary source of income would usually qualify, so would many others. The BCA has generally maintained the list over the years. Inconsistencies in defining what constitutes a pro has been a problem for decades in this sport, and no solution is likely anytime soon.

Hi
Moved to S. Central Pa.? Come on over to Ivory Billiards in York on Sunday afternoon at 2:00. $15 9-ball tournament. Brett and Dick are there every week. Brett is missing when it is a Planet Pool weekend. Good competition for very little money. They have free practice from noon till 2:00 also. And if you draw Dick or Brett you still get to play at least one more match cause it's double elimination. Races to 7 winners side and 5 losers side. Good deal
JR

Hey JR,

I was just there 2 weeks ago and finished 4th at the Ivory Billiards tournament behind Brett Stottlemyer, Joe Cataldi, and Dick Magaro. I saw you there warming up on that Sunday. I was warming up with Brent Shreiner :)

And NO ONE has mentioned any non-pro ladies!! Come on, I know there has to be SOME good semi-pro/amateur ladies in other areas. I would put myself down as a good semi-pro/amateur lady from Maryland/Pennsylvania, but I don't know if anyone would agree with me! :)

In California, the best female player I have both seen and played against is Michelle Rakin. The whole Rakin family, four or five kids, are excellent pool plalyers. I'm sure the rest of the pool world will hear of them soon.

I'd heard of Michelle by 2001 and Daniel's efforts in the juniors are well documented. There are more of them? Wow, looking forward to seeing how good they are. There must be some serious pool genes in that family.

Don't worry Jude. I don't feel qualified enough even if I wanted to.

There are two boys that must be about 12 or 13 now, I think they're twins. I saw them up in Reno a couple of years ago and didn't seem much taller than the edge of the table. Anyway, they were looking for action with substantial amounts of cash in the wee hours of the morning. Scary huh? Michelle has a sister too, Mary, who is a pretty good player as well. They all seem to be very nice people who just happen to play lights out pool and love to match up.

Cliff Joyner is no shortstop; he is more like a giantstop

If we're talking nine ball, in my home state of NY, the two players who jump off the page are Joey Korsiak and Eddie Vasquez.

But if we're talking straight pool, then Steve Lipsky is the one.
I played Steve a ways back and he is a excellent straight pool player! :)

Mary won the BCA Junior nationals 2004, Redante and Daniel are going to be 16 years old this year.

"without a doubt, the best amatuer player in virginia would be Chris Loar............he plays at a pro speed but doesn't play for a living so i'd say he's still considered an amatuer. 17 place at the US Open last year is pretty strong........."

Vapoolplayer,

Chris just won the TAP 5-6-7 singles 8 ball tournament yesterday in VF. I saw him beat a local favorite from my area 5-3 in the semi's. I think first was $2200. I saw him hit a jump shot from about 2 1/2 ft where he cut the ball in the corner then came around two rails straight on the eight. One of the best shots I've seen in person.

T411,
Are the boys still playing pool?

Yes they are, very well, as I'm sure you know. Great people too. Their dads name is also Redante; he has done a great job with his kids being a single parent.
