not sure what would designate a Semi-Pro in pool since most Pros in pool don't earn enough to usually not do something else such as teach, do endorsements, play tournaments etc!

Massachusetts. He may qualify as pro now but I'd go with Jason Michas. The only guys I know of who can beat him with any regularity are pro so I'd say he's tops.

I am from Maryland (just moved to Pennsylvania few months ago), so I think I can comment on both Maryland and the lower half of Pennsylvania. As far as the guys go...

Maryland

Fred Wenker (barbox)
Danny Green (9 ft)
Bobby Legg (barbox)
Mike Davis (but he's a pro now)
Shaun Wilkie (plays both, mostly 9ft)

Pennsylvania

Well, there's alot a guys that I can think of, but I will only name a few...
Dave Daya
Dick Magaro
Joe DiPietro
Pat McNally
Brett Stottlemyer

And NO ONE has mentioned any non-pro ladies!! Come on, I know there has to be SOME good semi-pro/amateur ladies in other areas. I would put myself down as a good semi-pro/amateur lady from Maryland/Pennsylvania, but I don't know if anyone would agree with me! :)

too many to name in nyc.

I would have to say the best amateur/semi-pro player in NYC is this board's Steve Lipsky. By far, he has the best straight pool game among anyone who isn't named Tony, Danny, Ginky or Mika. He was the Tri-State Tour Player of the Year last year, an award given to either Ginky, Tony Robles or Frankie Hernandez for the previous 10 years.

Marc Vidal is a fine player but he needs serious weight against Lipsky. There are many others, I admit but I think Steve stands out. I cannot think of any other player in the city that is not a professional yet can play Steve even-up and win.

Regarding the women, that's a really tough call. Since none truly stand out at this time, I'll just remain mum on the issue.

Hi
Moved to S. Central Pa.? Come on over to Ivory Billiards in York on Sunday afternoon at 2:00. $15 9-ball tournament. Brett and Dick are there every week. Brett is missing when it is a Planet Pool weekend. Good competition for very little money. They have free practice from noon till 2:00 also. And if you draw Dick or Brett you still get to play at least one more match cause it's double elimination. Races to 7 winners side and 5 losers side. Good deal

without a doubt, the best amatuer player in virginia would be Chris Loar............he plays at a pro speed but doesn't play for a living so i'd say he's still considered an amatuer. 17 place at the US Open last year is pretty strong.........

maryland, i'd have to put danny green or shorty henson as the the best amatuer.

north carolina would without a doubt be B.J. Ussery, if he's still considered an amatuer. he seems to be making the transition from an amatuer to a pro this year.

JAM, who would you add to this list for the VA/MD/DC area???

If we're talking nine ball, in my home state of NY, the two players who jump off the page are Joey Korsiak and Eddie Vasquez.

But if we're talking straight pool, then Steve Lipsky is the one.

Is Danny Barouty considered an amateur? If so, I'd
add him to the list. What about Flaco? How is he
playing these days?

Danny's a pro. Flaco is certainly one of the very best amateur one-pocket players in New York.

Hey SJM,

Joey K and Eddie wouldn't be considered pro? If that's the case NYC is a whole lot tougher than I ever imagined :)
