Best Break Cue

Fine By Me

Maybe I'm like the other poster...........and inherintly cheap, not really, but I feel if something isn't broken, don't fix it.
I have a cheapy little J&J j/b. It crushes the rack.
It took a little while to "break" the phenolic tip in to where you could actually impart some spin, but this thing is perfect for me.

And guess what?
Guys that have the big $$$ break cues don't make any more balls then I do.
And I only paid $90.

Another guy on my team has the exact same J&J and his ferrull came loose. He had it repaired....new ferrulle, new white diamond tip, and he breaks incredibly well with it....for that matter, the few times I've used it, I've done well with it also.

If you don't have to spend the $$, then don't.
If you want to....by all means, spend away.
If you don't like the J&J, someone will always buy one from you for $50-$60 used, and you eliminated that as an option.
Just my $.02, also.

i'm one of those guy s with the big $ break cues. i break with a $400 andy gilbert j/b cue. it's a great cue that breaks great and jumps with ease and it plays so well i'd stick to playing with it if i didn't have another gilber (that plays a hair better0

but i have to admit if i didn't already have the gilbert i'd be using a j&j. actually i'm in the market for one and a soft case for when i go to the bar to play. i'm a huge fan of the j&j jump break cues. the first one i ever used was sugi's (sugeknight) and i was so impressed i bought a friend of mine one for christmas

I fully agree and if custom i would choose a Varney:thumbup:

I fully agree on the Mezz PowerBreak. Dude, you should try the Dual Force, it's the bomb.

I just took delivery of the DeepImpact Pro shaft. I'll be testing it soon.

I am looking for a break cue. price isn't too much of an issue but what cue would you recommend.

I prefer the cue to be very light.

I have been looking around the best ones seem to be BK2, Mezz power breaker 2, or perhaps a custom j/b cue.

Can anyone recommend any custom makers who make excellent performing j/b cues and what prices they start at and comparisons to production break cues.

Am I better getting a seperate cue for breaking and jumping or are there good ones that do both?

Thanks in advance
i enjoy the action i get from my chris hightower jump break as for me it is the best

I have a pete ohmen j/b. 5 years it is so nice an love it still. Break cue that breaks well and great for long strong jump shot''' Pete Ohman Cues is 1 of the top cue makers''

Speaking as a non pro but with a pretty stout break ... I have tried a Predator BK and BK2 and can't really see the hype. I can break as well with my Predator SP although I don't want the stress on my playing cue.

My current break cue, and it smashes the rack ... although you have to be a tad more careful than you are with a low deflection shaft ... is a stripped down Viper butt with a stiff 13 MM shaft and a Picone White Diamond tip.

Total cost I don't remember, but it is around $50.00 total plus about 15 minutes work.

When I changed tips I sawed half the ferrule of and drilled a hole about 5" down the center of the shaft.

Total weight is 16.75 ozs if I remember correctly.

Maybe it's just that I'm inherently cheap, but unless one is a highly skilled player I don't believe that spending $300.00 or more on a cue that you will use 1 shot per game makes a lot of sense.

For most people the money would be better invested in a good case and/or lessons.

FWIW ... the break is the strongest part of my game.

My $0.02. YMMV.

LWW

I am not a cuebuilder, but how/why did you drill 5" down the shaft w/o weakining that part ? just asking, thanks,Jim
