best chalk

I didn't think you could beat Masters, but I think I have been proved to be wrong. Beacuse of all the hype over Blue Diamond I thought I would try some and I have to say it's awesome.

I am a green masters fan, but I got two free boxes of green silver-cup when I replaced my Simonis 860HR. I like the darker green of the silver cup, as it is less visable on the cloth than the lighter green Masters. I will go back to masters when I run out as I have a gross of the stuff.

I've tried BD, Silver Cup, Master, etc.

here are my results:rolleyes:

BD - expensive
Silver cup - messy
Master spruce - is the nuts

I've been using NIR professional for quite a while now.

I have no experimental data regarding its actual performance, i.e. I can't say it's any better or worse than Blue Diamond, or Master's, or whatever.

What I can say is that it goes on better and more uniformly than anything else I've ever used. That right there is enough to raise my confidence, and justify its use.

Just bought my third package of Blue Diamond. It is too expensive relative to other chalks but I find that there are simply fewer miscues with BD. I guess you get what you pay for.

Huh? What? I never ever had a miscue with Masters or Silver Cup!!! I only prefer Masters because its less messy but both work fine IMO.

I recently switched to Blue Diamond. Expensive stuff. It is defineately 'finer' than Masters. Seems to stick to my tip better than Masters. I'm quite happy with it.

I don't know what tip you have but, if it works for you great! I have a Triangle Tip & Masters & Silver Cup work fine for me without miscues...never ever had one! The Silver Cup is just messy is all! Gets on my shaft & table & is a real messy chalk IMO. If only Silver Cup was available I would use it. I prefer Masters as in no miscue & really clean compared to Silver Cup JMO.

I like this stuff. I use a samsara break tip and it even sticks to that like a champ. It is kind of pricey (around $8 for two cubes) but if your not a grinder, it will last a good long time. Contact Realizm or Benefica by PM and they should be able to hook you up.

I have a customer which have a US custom cue and is very particular on his cue.
He sends the cue 1800Km to me for a tip install and I have been swearing to Kamui
tips.
Now this guy have sent the cue 3 times to me - complaining about miss cuing
even on a simple shot without any english on it. It completely ruined his game,
he was "tight" in his shot and ended up using his cheap "pub cue" in tourneys.

Needless to say, I was not impressed by this and could not understand why his tips
was so bad.

Now - he called me 2 weeks ago and said : ''mystery solved - i tried the
stock Master house chalk in stead of my expensive Longoni/Blue diamond and
I have not miscued at all''

I guess this could be a bad batch or something, but he went back to Master.

Personally I have played only with Master and Blue Diamond and have had no
problems similar to the one just described. The ''big boys'' - top ranged players says
Master is not the same as it used to be and tells me that if you get hold of
some of the older Masters these are better than the latest series.
Personally I did not notice to much difference between the mentioned chalks,
but as anything - it's subjective I guess....

I guess the conclusion must be - try them out and see.

When i first got my table it came with some Mizerak chalk. I tried it a few times but it was messy, so i went out and bought blue masters chalk.
Blue masters on green felt, thats the way i remember it always being.
I guess you can't teach an old dog new tricks.
Buying Blue diamond might be okay but the price does not warrant it.

For the cheese . . .

the Blue Diamond is expensive as all get out . . . BUT, it does cover and stay on the tip better. I play with a Tiger Emerald, pick it a bit before I play and use the BD. If I'm not going to apply English I don't chalk between shots . . . and I haven't had any miscue problems. Its at least as good if not a slight bit better then the Master chalk. Master is a little grainier and it appears that most of it is off the tip after each shot.

Just for fun last night I set up a shot with the cue ball even with the side pockets - middle of table - with a dead straight shot to a corner pocket. Tried to crank draw with each chalk and get the cue to come all the way back down the table and then go back up at least where the cue ball started from. Both chalks performed almost identical.

Chalk is there to provide friction - both Master and BD do it well!

So, in the absence of a REAL performance difference, I have to see BD last 8x the time a cube of Masters lasts. I like the Longini, but I'm not buying anymore BD . . . I'll just chalk every shot with Masters once the supply I bought is gone. Besides, I don't have to worry anymore if I leave a cube of BD on the rail . . . some jackass puts it in his pocket and I'm sending the Rotweiller after him!

Whatever 3-cushion players use.

Good point.
I expect intelligent decisions from carom players.

They hate fast rails and slow cloth.

They must really hate current 10-ball rules.
They play the carom, position and a safety whenever possible.

Therefore if they recommended axle grease for the tip....
...I'd have to look into it

I have been using the BD for a few days now and there is not much doubt in my mind it is slightly better than other chalks I have used. It seems to stick better to my Moori, covers more evenly and has a very smooth feel.

Is it worth the extra, I'm not sure of that yet but if pushed I would have to say probably not. Will I buy more, if I can get it for a better price than I have been doing yes, at the same price almost certainly not.

Where is Dr. Dave when you need him?! I am sure he could devise some sort of experiment to measure the COF (coeffecient of friction) of the different chalk formulas.

I like pre flag Master chalk and Blue Diamond ... if for no other reason that I am more confident when I'm shooting with them. I feel I get a more consistent coverage on the tip.

I didn't notice anyone mention the Russian Magic chalk, I like using that when I'm not shooting up to par ... I take it out and say "ok boys, now I'm switching to MAGIC chalk, you don't stand a chance!"

All an all no matter what chalk you use its the cheapest thing in your game. Get real, try BD or masters or whatever. Myself I buy Blue Diamond by the case. I like it, an it works great for me an my game is worth it at least to me.
