What are pros and cons for each of those kinds:
The 3rd one looks like the best, of course you get what you pay for, these high end cue cases often have this design, I am looking to buy my 1st big case (2x4 or 3x5)) [I used to have a 1x1 hard tube and have no complain :D] but I don't want to spend $300++, $150 should be my price range.

JB cases. John Barton

I've had all 3 kinds and never had any damage. I use a JB now when I leave the house, also keep the Szam and Searing in it at home.

I like JB cases and have three of them. The tube-style ones you pictured seem good too, but I've never had an issue with any of my JB's. They are made extremely well and John will stand by his product.

One nice thing about the JB Ultrapad interiors is that if your case gets knocked over, the butts and shafts stay firmly in the case instead of flying out like they would in a tube case.

It's only important if the people at your pool room are as big a klutzes as they are at mine.

I prefer a lined tube style like #3. It looks like a Instroke in your pic, I use Whitten cases.

I apparently am 1 of the few that don't like the UltraPad interiors. Yeah I get that the cues don't move but they're a pain to get cues out of. I've been using tube styles forever and never had a damage issue

I think I'm the perfect one to give their unbiased opinion.

I have experience with lots of high end cases. I'll preface my opinion by saying I've had my personal run ins with Barton here on the forums. We don't like each other much. At the end, I think we just had a grudging respect for each other, though. With that said, his interiors are second to none. If you're looking for the absolute best protection for your cues, his product CAN NOT BE BEAT.

The exteriors of his cases is an entirely different matter. I think there's lots of guys who do better and much more creative work. In fact, his exterior work is second tier, IMO. Meaning, nothing special. But I'd include guys like Whitten in that category too. So, excellent makers, but not the pinnacle. But JB isn't charging pinnacle prices, either

Again, his interiors can't be beat. If your priority is protection, than he's your huckleberry.

#2 is the closest to a JB interior. I'd go that way.

#3 is okay but the cues can bounce around inside the hard tubes.

Good Luck & I hope you like what you get.

Get a JB Rugged case with the Ultrapad interior. It's the best. I've had JB, Justis (tube and Pro-Lite), Whitten, Instroke, and Porper. The JB is by far th best interior. I'd love to have a Justis case but I find e interiors lacking. Would kill for a Chuck Fields case with the JB interior but he's not taking orders. So, until then, I love my JB Ultimate Rugged.

#1 (Porper style) - there are different levels of quality. Whitten is decent but many are low end. Many are injection molded and weak, since they are the actual case shell. The junkyones offer the least protection and may even stain your cue, shafts and wrap.

#2 JB style is a good interior - fit is snug and it may not be easy to get shafts in there properly. Generally if the case is accidentally opened upside down, the snug fit prevents cues from slipping out. However, the interior offers no additional protection crush strength over the case shell. I have a JB case now. I bought it because the workmanship and appearance are first class. They are well designed for modern pool equipment carry.

#3 is the most functional in my opinion. The shafts and cue easily insert, the tubes offer added crush strength to the case shell. The only real negative is the cue may slide out if the case is opened upside down. In all the years I've used Justis cases (I use JB now) I've never opened a case upside down, no matter the sobriety level. tube cases tend to be heavier, so they are not so good in larger sizes, like 3X6.

If I were getting a 1X2 case, I would get a JB Chas case. I really like the little compact envelope design.

The OP said his price range is $150. Can any of the folks show the OP where he can find a JB Rugged case for under $200?

Thanks

Seyberts has the JB Rugged 4x8 at $190.00 free shipping.

I've had them all at one time or another! Of the 3 you posted I like #2 the best....jmho

That's where I got mine. The 2X5/3X4 is $180. I was able to poke around online and find a 10% off code. $162, no tax, free shipping for a brand new rugged.

It's easily the most user friendly case I've owned, and I love not having to worry about it getting scratched up if it gets knocked around a bit.

Case

Get a rubbed JB case, it will out last any case in its price range and serve a much better purpose.
Buy a rugged or any JB and don't look back'

case interior

in my opinion JB cases with the ultra pad interior are the best cases this industry has ever seen.

i personally own 4 JB cases for my daily player and small collection.

i recommend them to family, friends, and other players.

i have worked the sbe for the past 15+ years and whenever john had a booth i have directed hundreds of people to the JB Case "compound" he assembles every year.

*****DISCLAIMER*****

i personally do not know john barton. i see him once a year at the sbe. he may know me by face but that's it. i don't receive any freebies or discounts to endorse his cases. i praise his cases because they are the best. protection wise his ultra pad interiors are top notch and there isn't a close second. his innovation has set the bar extremely high.
