best cue for 3-400

I would suggest looking around for a used custom cue that is in good condition. I have seen some of my cues go on here or ebay used in that price range, as well as other quality cuemakers. If you wanted to go a little more and spend $475 I have a brand new one built and ready to go.

thanks for all you who have taken time to give advice...I like going the custom route but there are so many makers how do I know if it is a good cue or not?I see some of the names you guys mentioned but where do I look if it is not one of the names mentioned to find out if it is a good cue

Grey Ghost is right and that is good advice, but the truth is, you won't know unless you actually try it out for yourself. You will simply have to start with one that you think you will like and go from there.

Asking others what they think is never going to really satisfy you. It will only give you a slightly better idea than before.

Just pick a cue maker or cue that appeals to you and pull the trigger. It's only money. What's good about being on AZ, is that you can always resell your cue or trade it for another...... which is what a lot of guys do....... good luck in finding your cue....... finding the best cue might take a while....... just get one that you like....... that is the most important mindset you can have......

Crown Cues playing cues usually start at $310. But, with the 15% off holiday sale going on until the end of the year, the starting price is dropped to $263.50!! That is for finished cues or even custom orders. Gene also builds jump/break cues and masse' cues and he just started building carom cues, too.

Now that's a hell of a deal!

I would suggest you look into Joe Baker cues. I had a chance to meet Joe a few times and took a look at several of his cues.
He is a member here on the forum , JBCustomsCues is his screen name. I am adding a link to his website also to help. He builds a very nice cue and his prices are more than fair. Plus he is a pretty nice fellow to boot.
Hope this helps ,
