Best felt for 8ft brunswick

I am recovering an 8 ft brunswick and plan to put brunswick super speed cushions on it.

I am struggling to decide on a felt. Initially I wanted to cover it with simonis 860, but I am rethinking it because I'm getting advice that the table would be too fast with this setup.

Will it be too fast?

Also, how does mercury ultra compare to the simonis?

What cloth would u recommend?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

I will be bringing my Sport King home soon & I too am wondering what cloth should I put on it.

I've played on several valley coin tables with Simonis 760 & they were not TOO fast.

The opinions should be interesting.

I've got an 8-foot Brunswick here at the house. Had it about 5 years now. I upgraded the cloth at purchase to the Centennial cloth, which is Brunswick's fastest cloth. It was too fast for me when new. After five years it has slowed down some, but I wished I would have put a slightly nappier cloth on my table. The cue ball on my table (when new) seemed like it would never stop rolling. With Super Speed cushions and fast cloth, you may be playing 6-rail shape ;)!!!

Warning: I am not a table mechanic, so take my advice and opinions with a grain of salt.

I won't tell you which cloth you should use. But, I can give you my opinions on what I used having recently re-cushioned and re-clothed my own home table.

I went with Simonis 860hr Tournament blue. I'll be honest, the first few weeks with it, it was slick as ice and fast as concrete and it had me concerned it was going to stay too fast. When I first installed it, the cloth had what I will describe as "thin not thick" look and feel to it, as the cloth broke in over the next 2-3 weeks though, it appeared to "puff up" a little and slow down some to where I feel it's a perfect speed for my 8' home table.

When the cloth was first installed, if you got real close you could almost see tiny micro gaps in between the threads, now thats its "puffed out" those gaps are gone. I'm in love with it and have zero regrets in my choice of cloth. I did have some ball roll-out for the first couple weeks as well, making me think the table had gone out of level, but when checking it with the level, it still read true. What was happening was the ball was following the cross grain of the thread in the new cloth. As the cloth broke in "puffed out", those rolls stopped and the table plays true once again.

In addition, how the cloth is installed has EVERYTHING to do with how it plays. If your doing it yourself like I did, do not be shy with using your muscles and pulling the living snot out of it table length wise. As the cloth relaxes over a few weeks, it will loosen up minutely. If installed too loose to start, when it relaxes you may have an issue and need to re-stretch it, and who wants to take a table apart twice. Also, when installing make sure you keep the thread grain of the cloth as straight on the table as possible.

If by chance your hiring a table mechanic, good choice. Just make sure you know who you are hiring and their abilities and check out their work. Good luck and I hope this gives you some insight in your choice.

Simonis 860 tourney blue

I have brand new in the bag precut 860 for sale if you are interested

I also have a 8ft Brunswick, I put 90/10 worsted cloth from eBay on it, said it was comparable to simonis, but its not as fast, but I do like how it plays. I also put new proform cushions on with double shimmed pockets BC the pockets were big and am very happy with how the table plays.

I would highly recommend muellers basalt. It's fast and wears great, maintaining consistant speed an feel. Feel, simonis is thin, the basalt is not nearly as thin. Someone who speaks textiles(fabrics), would say the basalt has a heavier hand.

For me it means better feel on English.

Simonis is great new but as it wears it gets thinner and faster.

Simonis and the basalt are fast felt, imo what u want regardless table size, but the basalt maintains better feel.

2 yrs of playing on each, 8-10 hrs a week.

To me, the most important factor to selecting the cloth for my home table, is creating an environment on my home table that is most similar to what you will play on when not playing at home. And the answer to that is Simonis 860.

Go with 860. I have no idea why anyone would say that would make your table too fast. It will make it awesome...

Thanks to all for your thoughts. I'll post back when I decide. May go with the basalt given the great reviews and considerably cheaper than simonis.

I have 860 on my Brunswick Sportsman and I don't think it is too fast at all. I love it.

I recently moved to a new home and I had to move and set up my 8' Gandy table. The table had a no name Simonis style cloth on it before I moved and I decided to put Simonis 860 Tournament Blue cloth on it when I set it up at my new home. I couldn't be happier with the table with the new 860 Simonis cloth. It's like a brand new table and the rubber is K66 which I purchased from Meullers which works great on the table. It originally had a slow cloth and rail rubber on it and I didn't like the way it played, but it's like a totally new table now with the new rail rubber and the Simonis 860 cloth. The speed is perfect for me.

You made exactly the right call. Congrats, you will love it. I run the same cloth on my 8ft.

That's awesome. Just like a brand new table!

Go with 860Hr, yes it plays quick at first, but as you play it slows down, maybe a month or two it becomes a little more like what your used to in a pool hall.
