Best ferrule's available?

Besides real ivory, and Ivorine III, what are/is the best ferrule/s, currently readily available?

good stuff is hard to find. i like the hit better than ivory, much cheaper and tougher. most of it is grey kinda like the old gray-white ferrules of yesteryear. chuck

I've only seen a few buckhorn ferrules, and thought they were ugly. Looked dirty to me.

Is there any way to bleach them to make them look like ivory?

If you're after performance, linen melamine is hard to beat. It's light, strong, and stays clean. There are other ferrule material that work well and a few new ones that I've not tried yet.

It should be obvious by the answers so far that you have
wandered into the minefield of 'good hit' subset, ferrule material.

So, much the same as with tips, the answer you give depends
mostly on the type of hit you want.

IMHO - since you seem to prefer Ivorine III - you would hate melamine.

Buckhorn makes great ferrules - and you can get it white and clear -
IF you start with the right buckhorn AND process it correctly.

Also, IMHO - Westinghouse Micarta takes the prize, but I am
admitedly more than just a little bit prejudiced.

sorry if this is a bit off topic, but I was wondering if anyone has put phenolic ferrule (like the one people put on their break cues) on their playing cues? How do they hit? I was thinking about converting my break cue as playing cue.

I have a canvas black phenolic ferrule on a sneaky pete. I like it very well. The canvas resembles carbon fiber.

Actually, it's a great player. The sneaky is an old conversion I did. The weight is 15.94 oz. and I love the way it hits. I had a water buffalo tip on it, but changed to a standard triangle. I don't like it for breaking though. Go figure.
