Best hitting cue for $1200 buck?

For $1200 shipped, I have got a wonderful 6-point hoppe style Gilbert cue....ebony into bird's eye maple with veneers...solid black linen wrap...two shafts...ivory joint and hoppe ring. This cue is a few years old, but still like new condition.

Feel free to PM me if any interest...can get some images later today.

Best Hitting Cue

Now this is just my opinion. First and foremost I own about six steve Dunkil cues, Three Original Bill McDaniel cues, two Richard Black, four Meucci, and Three Capones.

There is no doubt in my mind, the very best cue that I have is the Capones, they hit fantastic, they hit so, so, so, so good.

I will not use them in league play.

The very next best cue, is my merry widow Steve Dunkil, I think Steve is one of the very best cue makers out there as well. i see you live in the same vicinity as Steve. If you happen to talk to him, tell him I will be seeing him soon, John Walz says Hi to him.

Anyway like I said just my opinion.

$1200 must be a magic number. Look at all the nice cues that pop up here!

I had the privilege to play with almost all the notable cue makers cues out there.

There are some that are down right amazing but unfortunately would probably be out of your price range.

I really like PFD though. They seems to use really fine materials. I haven't hit with a PFD that i don't like (about 4-5 of them).

Their price does not really seems to reflect their quality. So you could really get lucky and grab one that comes by in your price range.

Unless money is not really a concern for you. My advice would be to get one that holds value well so if you do not like it (hit is very subjective) and wants to change you can without much difficulty.

I agree with certain opinions here. "Hit" and "feel" are quite subjective. I played with a Mike Bender that hit great, but didn't feel right. On the other hand, I played a $1200 Jerry R. cue that hit amazing.

I prefer a fairly stiff hit, so my shafts can't be a Meucci. I prefer as close to 13mm as possible.

For me, the shafts are the most important part. I play with Tibbits and Szamboti (Barry) shafts; the butt of the cue, while somewhat relevant, becomes secondary. My joint preference is a 5/16X14 piloted. Ivory is optional. :D

I def will. He lives less than a mile away from me. I will def let him know. Capone use to live in mercerville nj where im from but he moved a while ago. My name is Randy Guest nice to meet you.

that's a good question

a lot depends on whether you're looking for a new or used one. either way, if you can get your hands on an ultrajoint lambros you will not be disappointed. number one in my book. mikes cues stand alone when it comes to unique hit and awesome playability!

cues4christ has one that's a beaut if he's willing to part with it.

All of the cues mentioned are probably good bets, I havent played with some of them but they are all respected. For $1200.00 you can have Jerry Rauenzahn build you a full splice hoppe cue and mine is a sweet player. There is also a gentleman by the name of John Bender that will build you a sweet playing cue for 3/4 's of that money.

That's an easy one !
Plain Jane Blue grass from Richard Harris

Yup.

If I was going to spend $1200 this the first thing I would look for. Coco plain jane Bluegrass. Maybe the best value in cues IMO.

If you could go a few hundred more it gets you into Sugartree territory where the woods start to get real interesting.

Both cues play great and both are made by great guys.

Scruggs cues are a favorite of many good players, but if you want a nice playing cue in that price range, talking to Leon Sly could be a good option. Sly's Custom Cues #410-827-4966

Ariel Carmeli from CA. ( always an excellent choice). Andy Gilbert, S&S from TX. under $1,000, Blue Grass $850 & above, SLY, Steve Klapp under $800, Varney, etc.
The way a cue plays as long as it is built solid, depends on the players stroke, style, skill, etc.
More emphasis on the shaft wood, ferrule & tip combination too.
Try some & find what you like, then order or buy one specific for you.
There are so many cuebuilders out there that are under the radar that build fantastic cues.
Good luck in your search.

I'll say Kenny Murrell ,Kenny koo. Andy Gilbert .. And worth the money and Great playing cues very stiff and feed back .. Also not on the Highh price range But Jimi Baxter make a very good stiff hitting cue...

Hit is a very personal thing. I like to play with stiffer cues, and on that front, I would recommend cues from Richard Harris and MasonH.

Alot of good quality names mentioned

I've seen this post many of times and not once was my favorite mentioned. I love my Shurtz cue made by Bob Owens. Sometimes I am running late for leagues and I do not have enough time to go home and get my cue. Boy !! what a difference when I shoot with someone elses.
WHEN GAMBLING:
YOU WON'T LOSE YOUR SHIRT WITH A SHURTZ. YOU GO BOB !!!!!
