Best home table?

No Diamond, No Gold Crown. Want leather pockets.

What’s the best new home table for a reasonable price, let’s say 5 grand?
Will any of them play close to a GC or Diamond?

Olhausen is good if you want to fix the pocket geometry. But it requires work of a skilled mechanic or DIY if you're handy. I have an Olhausen and it's a well made table, made in the US, but the pockets are a travesty when in stock form and they refuse to fix them. Ignorance or laziness, I don't know which.

If I were to buy a home table, I'd probably just buy a brunswick. At least their pockets aren't a 3 ring circus.

The dye on the leather pockets of my (Brunswick) home table would put a lot of scuff marks on the balls. It was a real pain to keep the balls clean.

No such issues with my Gold Crown, but in fairness, I use better balls (Aramith/Duramith) with the Gold Crown.

I bought a new Brunswick a few years ago and had a local table mechanic redo the rails. I would go with a GC or Diamond (or even Valley!) if I had to do it over again. I don't think the furniture tables are made for heavy play.

Double your 5 grand and call Mark Gregory... It might need a little more now with inflation.. BUT you will end up with a table as close to perfection as you can get east of the Mississippi!

Not a leather pocket or new but for my money Brunswick Anniversary are the coolest looking (and play great)>

I was thinking the same but I don't see the furniture style tables on their website anymore. Do they still make them?
I saw the paragon on a stream not to long ago. I have no idea, might have quit making them after the fire or flood they had?

The Paragon is about as close as it gets on their site. If recall, years ago they were making traditional furniture style tables complete with leather pockets.

Those were the ones I was thinking of when I first posted. Just looked. They are all gone. Strange.

Thanks everyone. I personally would do a Diamond, GC4, or Anniversary. However it’s for my Brother in Law and his wife is calling the shots🤣
The thing is though - a used Gold Crown is like the ideal home table imo. It’s a classic mid century design, and fairly available at reasonable prices, while being a great pool table all in one package.

I know it’s easy for me to say it when the wife has a hand in the pot.

Quite simply, no they won’t.
This is true, I bought a Brunswick home table (Black Wolf) new in 2019, big mistake. Does not play anything like a GC, horrible cushions, rails, constantly needed leveling. Left it for the new owner when we sold the house a year later-

Some will call this blasphemy, but Delta (Canadian company, Chinese made) makes Gold Crown 5 copies which they call the “President V” which actually do look & play very close to the real thing. Local dealer near me sells them & one local poolhall has a batch of them. When I investigated them about 2 years ago, they were available in 7, 8 & 9 ft sizes & were about 40% cheaper than a Brunswick GC6.

From the OP’s original question, its not clear if the key issue for no GC/Diamond is budget, looks, or both. But in terms of new table performance on a budget, I think one of these would be quite nice.

Cheers
