Hey there all, I'm an A player looking to push my game to the next level - anyone recommend a good instructor in the New York area to help?

Also, any other recommendations on how to push to that next level would be appreciated.

Tony Robles is a great instructor.

Earl Strickland is the house pro at Steinway. Zion, and Phil Capelle are also in the area.

Tony Robles out of Amsterdam is one of the best around. Also if your into the aiming systems like - CTE - or a pivot style 90/90..Ron Vitello is considered one of the best (and creator of 90/90) and based out of Eastside Billiards on 86th and 2nd Ave upstairs.

Mark Finklestein has to be one of the best instructors in the New York area. Writer for NYCGrind and also one of the instructors at Tom Simpson's pool acadamy. He was also mentioned in the book "sweet, an 8 ball odessy". I have first hand experience with Mark as I attended one of Tom Simpson's pool schools and mark was one of my instructors. I can't say enough about him. Great instructor, great guy, great player.

Fran Crimi

I would try to get Fran Crimi for a lesson if I was in the New York area. Her posts on AZ are always worth reading. I like her common sense aproach to pool. I hope her clinics are a sucess. I think they will be if players give her a chance. Just my 2 cents.

I have spent the last year and a half trying really hard to improve my pool skills. I play a lot, practice a lot, and play in tournaments. Once in a while I get to gamble. I have bought several instructional videos. Probably the one that has been " immediately " helpful has been Gene's Perfect Aim along with a couple of phone conversations I have had with him. He has stuff on that dvd of his that you can take to the pool room, and it works right now. There's a lot of "what you should do to be a better player" out there, but not a lot of "how to do it". Geno and his Perfect Aim dvd give you a lot of "how to do it" that can be applied to actual game situations or even drills that I have seen on other instructional dvd's. Give Geno a call. It won't cost you a dime to listen to what the guy has to say. He always says something to me that helps my game.

Hey Skateboard,
Go directly to Tony Robles.
He is a world class player, and one of the best instructors around.
He just happens to be one of the nicest guys in the game as well.
Best,
Ken Kerner

+1 for Tony Robles! Great teacher and excellent pro player! As an aside...I will holding a 3-day intensive pool school being hosted by Hub Billiards Club, in Island Park, just outside Brooklyn, on Long Island. The school will be held 8am-5pm, Friday-Sunday, May 31-June 2nd, 2013.

Fran is definitely a great choice, especially for an A player looking to fine tune your game. She is definitely one of the best.

Tony Robles is also a great choice.

I agree. Ms. Crimi's comments always make sense & she seems to have a non cookie cutter approach, base on a wealth of knowledge.

The other names mentioned are of note as well, but Ms. Crimi is now a 'full time' former BCA & current PBIA Master Instructor.

If I were in The Big Apple, I'd start with her.

I also read Fran's post and find them helpful. If I were in NY, I'd definitely take lessons with her. I hope her clinics are a success and would like to attend, I'm sure I'd learn something valuable to benefit my game.
