best player ever?

Wait!!! I dont think anyone is disparaging Efren Reyes by one bit. Efren and Jose Parica are the two top choices in my book. Thats me! My choices. People might not agree with me for not picking a Buddy or Earl. I am not a big fan of Larry's but read his posts again. He makes a very good and outstanding list of cueists. He states his opinion which I can understand. I think some are putting words in his mouth this time. He has always spoke highly of Efren although words like "he couldnt carry his jock strap in a billiard hall" would not be my choice of words. And his argument about national loyalty might be nonsensical. Tell me Larry should I root over Efren for a Ronnie Allen because RA is an American. Or bet on a Grady Mathews over a Alex Pagulayan because Alex is a Canadian? I still think he is trying to inform people about some of the greats that might not get the recognition they deserve because they are no longer with us. Even Bruce Lee had a teacher.

Not a bad looking resume for a choker. :D
Larry, you're digging a bigger hole all the time. ;)

Sure the world of sports is full of talented ham and eggers who cant be great. Golf, their Efren is Phil Michleson, like efren he wins a lot of events, when it gets down the champion time in the majors, he can't win because he has both hands choking his own throat. You sir are digging your own hole for each piece of new evidence you send me makes my case all the more stronger. As Napaleon said to the King of France, don't send me any more troops to attack me, they are all now mine, I don't need any more. May I suggest sir you lost this debate and your retire from the floor and let something new come in. You fought a good fight, I admire you for that sir. You just did not have the facts behind you sir. :D

Larry you are so sensitive you should change you"re name to Fast fairy. in you"re own words you said "He Choked all of his chances to be great" How can you not call him great? He was voted the best player of all time in many magazines! Get a clue old dude.

choker

Ok Larry if you are calling Efren a choker I am not going to stand behind you on that one. By saying that you are inviting the so called "bozos" in your front door. You started of with a very debatable subject which we could discuss civily. But Efren a choker? No I aint going down that road with you.

FL RESPONDS, SIR IN ALL DUE RESPECT, I have already answered that question. Thank you for my defense. This is what they have done to me in the past. I say something they dont like and they then turn it on me and they all gang on. I am trying to prevent that this time and I need you help to keep this debate fair and on the top of the table so it does not fall down into the sewer where it has gone in the past.

I admire Efren, he is the best player on Earth today. If Efren and Earl match up tomorrow, I bet on Efren under the table so nobody knows and I sit on the front row and cheeer for Earl, USA, USA, USA, PLEASE EARL, make my bet a loser. If Earl wins and I lose my bet, I am one very happy American. :D

No sir, I am sorry, your lame excuse to excuse him from choking the big one for a decade or more won’t fly with me. The mark of the great ones is they close out the opponent under the lights in the finals, not just keep coming in 2nd over and over.
Larry, I know I didn't make any excuses at all for Efren -- let alone "lame" ones. I have no idea where you got that one. However, what I am reading is your 'lame excuses' for excluding Efren from your top ten list.

Please tell me again about all of Richie Florence's international tournament success, or his 'all-around' tournament success over 'more than 10 years' (as I believe you said :) ), and explain again how it is not a slight to Efren to equate Richie and Efren...

Looks like Joseph Cues found many Efren first place victories -- I am sure like Jack "Nickalaus" he too has many 2nd place finishes. And your point is....

Ok I see your point about the Earl thing. But I would still root for Efren.

A fact is sir, a fact, I keep saying over an over, do not shoot the messenger sir. Did I not call my very close and personal friend Mike Massey a choker also. Francine told me in 1997, Mike has more talent than any other player out there, if we could take my head and put it on Mikes body he would never lose again.
They both knew Mike was a choker, he played on the PBT and never won an event, bingo, he solved his problem and won a seniors event, then dominated the world artistic sport. I have nothing but greater admiration from a choker who kills the demon and becomes a champion that some lucky slob who just is a natural and lucks into his victories, some he backs into.

Such an example in golf was Tom Watson, more talent than efren, won a lot of events, but dogged the big ones, choked like a dog on every one. It was ugly to watch him go into the us open with a hugh lead where he only had to shoot a 78 to win and blow to a 79 to lose. One of my teachers at golf, Byron Nelson, got him under his wing, worked his head over and Tom soon became the ice man. He went on to take Nicklaus out in many head to head duels in the majors and he did dominate his decade becoming a great of golf.
In golf you can talk of Watsons choking years with out being vicioulsy attacked. I try to discuss Efrens choking problem now resolved and you all want to attack me to shut me up. May I ask this, what is your problem here.
You have the problem here, I do not have the problem.

Another very intelligent post from you moron, your only way to respond to me to is now call me a homo, you are dropping down in class, I though you were already in the sewer here, you are now going down into the sub sewer. Me a homo, I have nailed more chicks than you have choked the 9 ball on, and that number is in the thousands. What part of take a hike, leave us alone did you not understand bozo. No bozos wanted here. Start your own bozo thread, then all you bozos can get on together and tell you all what you all ready know then you will all think you are all really smart. :D

Larry the whole problem with you is, you think what ever you say should be written in stone, and when somone says other wise you get upsett and think we are getting on you.

Oh ok if you want to talk about his choking problem Ok. I have seen him dog it. I have seen him choke. But I would not say that is descriptive of him as a player. I would not represent him as a choker. I have told lies in my life time but would not want to be described as a liar. We all have Larry. There are facts and there are truths. I have no problem. Or do I have problems with you. If you treat me as an equal we will be able to discuss all kinds of things. In fact I was hoping to learn more about the wonderful people like Jimmy Caras or Willie Hoppe from you that you mentioned. But if you dont underestimate me I wont underestimate you.

What did Fatty win? He won the hearts and minds of people. People like Grady Mathews whom I have the utmost respect says Fatty was never a great player. I dont know Ive never seen him in his prime. But ask the people , no ask even general sports enthusiasts. Go to the World Series or the NBA Finals and ask the fans who Jim Rempe, or Buddy Hall, Larry Schwartz, or a Mizerak, {all guys I respect) and you will get a Huh? Who? But ask them who is Minnesota Fats was and they will not only tell you but have a story to tell about him as well. How many pool players had there own tv show or been on the Johnny Carson hosted Tonite Show. Im talking about people who influenced pool and made it into what it is today. Now I am a fan of excellence and skill but I have seldom read anything by a Nobel Prize winner of literature but I have read a lot of Patricia Cornwell, Zane Grey, Scott Turow, Conan Doyle, Jeffrey Deaver, etc. Its because of these guys that I might try something deeper but I would never puke if you called those people good writers.
How can anyone forget who Minnisota Fats is after that big blockbuster movie Hustler. Have another blockbuster hit today with a nick name and have someone take up the name i'm sure they will be remembered centuries from now.

The room I came up in produced three players with a fast name handle, Fast Eddy, the real one portrayed in the Hustler movie, Fast Eddy Parker, Fast Joey and me, Fast Larry. We played a Fast game and got a fast name handle, that is all it meant.

Why yes and I am looking forward to you telling or teaching me things I don't know was well. I need this and I desire this. My goal in life is to never allow the sun to set without learning one new thing that day. As soon as the bozos cease their endless attacks on me I can become less defensive.

Sure, show me, say one nice thing about me, give me one compliment, acknowledge one good thing I have done. What you have done is stalk and dog me. You follow me from post to post and you can go back and study your comments and all of them are non stop digs insults and attacks. Get off my posts, drop dead, go get a life.

Yes that is absolutely correct and he's never looked back. Here is the problem; He was out on tour for 20 years before that. Think what he would be if he had got with a teaching guru like me who teaches the zone and advanced sport psychology techniques like I do and other top sports coaches do. He could have put it all together back them and he could have exceeded Marconi’s 15 world titles by now. Age is not on his side being in his 50's. He blew it, but other young players should learn a lesson from this.

You must develop the mind game equal to the mechanical swing game, the two must become as one. You need a guru for that to teach this to you. The smart ones find one, the dumb ones stay right where they are at for the rest of their lives, and then they get old and starve.

Larry, I have never knocked anything you have posted. I have agreed with, probably, most of your posts but this I can not let pass.

Quote: Walter Tevis, author of "The Hustler" and "The Color Of Money", I went to Corcoran's Pool Roon in Frisco and saw a young, brash player by the name of Ronnie Allen who was a worldbeater, got the idea for the book and the rest is fiction and history.
