Best player in Alabama?

I was in Mobile a few years ago and there was a guy known only as "Brim Cap" who obviously played real well. He seemed to be the guy to beat in one pocket anyway.

His name is actually Brincat. His first name is Steve. And yes he was the man to beat, especially at one pocket. But he has quit shooting as of several years now.

There are some other good one pocket players here but none comprable to Brincat when he was in his prime. Joe Nelson still moves very, very good but he doesn't have the firepower than he once had.

IMO the best player to ever come from Mobile was a young gun, Bubba Howard. When he was 16 yrs old Joe Nelson took him on a trip to California and he beat evereeeeee........bodeeeee, including Grady, Incordona, Steve Cook and many more of the greats from the 60 and 70"s era. By the time he was 21 he got into drugs and later pulled up from pool and went into religion. He was a pure natural talent with a stroke similar to Buddy Hall. What a shame! He was destined to be one of the greatest legends of all time.

Hey Harold, sorry I didn't see this earlier. I would be totally down for this, I think. My guys would be me, the other guy here, Duane from Columbus, maybe BB if he is allowed, as he pulls for AU if they aren't playing UGA, and I would have to think about the other(s). I think it would be a cool deal to do annually. They actually did a Montgomery vs Auburn thing for a couple k, but it was before I moved back. Plus we just got Mark Gregory to put in a couple of tight pocket Brunswicks in the room here, including the GC4 that was in the pool room in Duluth, so we could actually play here now, lol. Lets really try to get this going.

Where did they put the good tables??

Maybe "Mophead" could be on your team. BB should be grandfathered in!

Not sure if he is still playing or not but Donnie Pinson in Boaz use to play real good.

Geez, I am from the South and even I couldn't understand the guy! He told me the guy's name like 3 times! LOL:smile:

Trouble was that Donnie didn't play the same level away from home. That and he became sick. He played pretty sporty in Boaz though. I watched him and Cliff play once.

I hope Donnie is doing well.

Once years ago my buddy and I were in Mobile for about 3-4 days looking for action. We could hardly get a game that wasn't stealing for the Mobile clan.
Finally a group decided to put Steve in the box. Only trouble was he would not come to the pool room. They ended up offering him $500 just to come play..win or lose. He stayed at home.
I do believe that a match I watched there killed him and knocked him out of pool. He was beaten by a Pinoy getting big weight on his home track and it wasnt close.

Never heard of Bubba Howard. If its the same Joe Nelson I played him some one pocket and some Gin. The pool was close but I figured out Joe was a Gin machine. Ended up setting up a few games for him. Nice jelly.

hmmm and after 10 years no one remembers me but i did use several names...maybe i should get back in stroke again (ive not played at all) cause i have beat all these guys.. donnie pinson, j linn, david from birmingham, scotty townsend, billy kuykendall"cullman", randy vaughn, kenneth james, ricky pepper, roadman, laney...crap the list goes on and on except i never played hennesse...:frown:

You got a name?

I have seen George Rothrock wup Tim O. for a dime at the end of last year. Also Bulfin plays good but not that good. I could take him down on a good day. Rowell plays good but not great. I would bet on George against Rowell any day. Also I hear Scotty Townsend's son plays real good but never seen him play.

Thats my two cents

You guys are a little better at finding stake horses than I am so find me one and I'll pull your airplane trick.

is little red riding hoow in here now , cause i sure do hear alot of woofing going on in here!:D

Well, you posted up you are better than all these players and won't give a real name and now want to complain that no one is jumping to make a game with you. If you have an AL license prior to today's date and want to play Hennessee, you have action. Play on a weekend so it doesn't interrupt your day job. I no longer live in AL so we may have to arrange a date, but I am fairly certain we can bet a few thousand (more if you are not a legend) in the next month or so.

Good enough?

Edit: I am not speaking for Hennessee as I haven't discussed it with him nor am I his backer, but I am certain it can be arranged.

i call b.s.

i call b.s.

I am thinking somewhat the same thing.

its odd to mention Roadman and stating that you last played 10 years ago. Justin then and Justin now are two different players.

Same with others on the list. I mean Scotty is on there and I KNOW whoever it was didnt play better than Scotty 10-15 years ago.

If thats him he looks vaguely familiar but I cant be sure.
I was around the Alabama pool scene for years and thought I knew everyone.

But then again maybe I would be surprised. I was by Gene Cooper and he is from Alabama.

Odd that he is wanting acclaim but mentions no name.

Also I would think he is from North Al with the list he provided.

exactly. i was living in tuscaloosa and had been playing for about 9 years and pretty much knew who there was to know with squirrel living there. we had lots of players come through all the time. had pretty big tournaments back then. he might have beaten those players once in a tournament but not all of them gambling PERIOD.

justin was around then but way under radar. as u say nobody really had to beat townsend back then. also i notice some names from around that time that are missing from his list that makes it strange also even if was around northern parts.

so no offense but like i said. i call b.s.

like i said i was around. played in tournaments in huntsville at old shooters. went as far as nashville. i'll just come out and say that u never beat townsend for money even, end of story. probably a few others u mentioned. come clean.

I call B.S. as well I've been around the Alabama pool scene since 1989 and their isn't anyone that is-was-has been from Alabama who could beat two or three of the guys on that list especially Scotty and even today NO ONE has to beat him except Hennessee.
