Best Players in Charlotte area?

I saw the "who are the best players in Alabama" thread and it got me wondering who the best players living in the Charlotte area are. I'm guessing Jeff Abernathy is right up there if you could consider Hickory in the Charlotte area.

Well if you are going to add Hickory, Tony Watson. But someone here said Mike Sigel was moving to the Charlotte some time ago. If he landed there, than he would instantly go to any top list.

Didn't know Watson was from Hickory. My goodness...how does a town of 40k people produce Abernathy, Watson, and Hillbilly Bryant?

i was hoping it was something in the water here but, apparently, NOT. for me anyway. there are a lot of fine players in the area.

What ever happened to Harold Dollar? Or was he from Sanford? Is Cliff J from Sanford? I know that's where I met him in 1988. The Carolina's use to be the best action place in the country!

Dan Heidrich (formerly of Rochester) lives just outside Charlotte. He won several Joss Northeast 9 Ball events. Currently making cues under the Heidrich Cue label. Saw him at SBE this past April. Plays pretty sporty!

My old pal Tony Morrison is also hanging around near Charlotte. Haven't seen him in a couple of years. Always a tough game.

Does anyone remember a pool player they called junky Randy that played at a town called Hartsell, or something like that? Also, what happen to Brian Ezell?

Mike moved to the Charlotte area about a month ago.

Mike, even if say out of his prime shooting years, would be the best player in Charlotte then imo. One of my friends told me the other day his name was drawn for the break n run at Smokin Cue, but broke dry. Was not there so can't confirm, but a very reliable friend.

Harold Dollar passed away this year.

most likely his passing had to do with his weight? Harold was very short but had to weigh 300+. a very round fella ... and yes he could play some pool

thx for letting us know ...

very sorry to hear this. RIP big guy RIP

The Smokin' Cue usually posts their Wednesday tourney results on their website and facebook page, including who was drawn for break-n-run attempts.

As far as Mike being in town, haven't seen him yet personally, but last time I spoke with Dan Heidriech he did in fact mention Captain Hook was coming to the area.

I between Charlotte and Raleigh we have a bunch of great players;

Mike Sigel
tony Watson
Abernathy
Mike fuller
BJ Ussery
Larry Nevel

And then the list of "A" players I would say is really long. And that is not even counting 1/4th the state.

Well I was not sure of the Break and Run as I could not confirm. But he is in the Charlotte area. A pic from the Q City 9 Ball tour page of Mike at 150 & Out. BTW, that is a fitting name to a pool hall for Mike to visit lol...

North Carolina has produced two of the best players of all time

Wimpy and The Pearl!
