Best Pool City???

I am looking to retire and love pool! I am about a 7 speed, (from 1-10), I like 9 ball tournaments and one pocket action. I play some golf but want to focus on pool. I have even considered becoming an expat in the Phillipines because of the pool skills there. Any suggestions?

Canada, some large 50 table rooms, and if your in the NW area, you've got Washington and Oregon. Great summers up there also.

Bangkok.....hands down.

In case anyone isnt aware of this, Cuaba(Brad Simpson-yup the guy who wrote the book). He is very well traveled and knows pool very well, he has been around pool for 30+ years and been everywhere in the world and here in America. So there lots to be said for such a short answer. Most people think where they live is good, only because they haven't traveled around. I'm going to go Thailand within a year for some time, I was there in 02 but wasnt playing much, I did play while I was there. Food is great too!!!

best

Eric :)

I think at that age, you might get into "trouble" in Bangkok or Manilla. Both cities can be pretty rough too, ESPECIALLY Manilla. If money is no object as it would have to be if you are trying to retire at 35, why not travel around and spend a couple of months in multiple places to see where you like it best and where "likes you" best.

if you're ok with the ex-pat thing than i would say the phillipines has to be the best bet to up your game. look what it did for shane:shocked2:
if you want to stay in the states i have said it before and i'll say it again the atlanta area isn't bad for pool. we have more than a few good rooms. road action comes through alot. a lot of pros live in the area. there is a tournament almost every night, leagues, gambling. you name we have it. and you have the added bonus of being a short drive from a lot of other good areas too. just something to think about.

anywhere in florida

I disagree. South Florida is no good, especially Miami. Right now there are NO tournaments in miami. The only ones I know of are two very weak bar table tournaments. Like race to 1 8ball events that shouldnt even be called events. More like drunk get togethers for $40 first prize.

The Tampa area is the place in florida to move to. That or possibly jacksonville. If you want to move to florida. IMO the best two places to move to for pool inside the usa would be some place in arizona or texas. I think Austin is where I would move. Close to all the pool action and the town is a college town with vibrancy and youthful energy.

Now if I could move anywhere for pool, I would of course choose Manila. Provided you have a good bankroll so making a living is not an issue. Its just all about pool. I think if you moved to Manila you would get a 1-2 balls better in a year easily.

35 and cashed up? He'll live like a king in either, but Bangers for casual/fun play, Manila for more serious action.

Actually, Bangkok is very safe. But Manila is very dangerous.

My best friend in Manila (Ed Reyes) was murdered there.

I agree with your advice about travelling around. 35 is a great age to see the world.

yes philippines is the best place to harness your game, i suggest you stay with in quezon city area near star billiards, so if you want to practice, star billiards offer its place for free plus there are some good players there who can play you money game, i would suggest try visiting the philippines first so you would have idea on how you can live your life, gaining friends here in the philippines is easy i think filipinos are one of the most hospitable people in the world, if you decide on going here just give me a buzz i'd be glad to help you

I've visited Manila about fifteen times with no problems as yet. The people are very nice unless you're not. You can get a game in almost any poolroom you wander into, anywhere from $2 to $50. For bigger games you will have to go to the big rooms like One Side. Also full of good players!
