Best Pool Halls In The United States

In the L.A. area it would have to be HardTimes in Bellflower and Hollywood Billiards in Hollywood.

HardTimes is more of a pure pool hall: No jukebox* and no alcohol. Around 30 Gold Crowns, 3 bar boxes, 2 snooker tables and 2 billiard tables. Tournament room tables play somewhat tighter, but none could be considered really loose. You can find action here.

Hollywood Billiards is definitely more upscale, but it wasn't always this way when it was in its prior location in the basement of an office building. In the old days we would close down our pool hall in the valley at 1am or so on Friday and Saturday nights, then head up to Hollywood Billiards to play all night until morning.

*EDIT: Was just at Hardtimes on my lunch hour today and I'll be darned, the indeed have a jukebox. It's on so low you can hardly hear it though, and probably is why I never noticed it

Magoos

Another vote for Magoos in Tulsa. Thats where I play these days. When I lived in LA, Hardtimes was the place to go. I also lived in Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood Billiards was a great place to play down there.

Love to Play

I travel a lot and this year have played in several new rooms for me in TX, OK, TN, AL, AZ, CO, FL, LA, and CA. I especially enjoyed Hollywood Billiards and Hard Times, Bellflower. I sure miss Reds in Houston.

Felt Billiards in Englewood ,Colorado a suburb just south of Denver.
Every thing you could want in a room.
Great food, lots of T.Vs 9 and 7 foot Diamonds,9 foot Gold Crowns, a snooker table, golf simulator and live poker.
Added bonus I play there.

Sometimes it’s really fun when these old threads are brought back to life.

This is not one of those times.

There are at least two businesses/services that try to list all pool rooms. One of them is on a sticky for this forum. It would make more sense for any effort towards having extensive reviews of pool rooms to be on those sites somehow.

I'd also hope that any such list would have website and map links to the rooms.

I’ve actually used that when traveling but it doesn’t seem like it’s updated too often.

Usually I just google it. Like today..I have a few hours in Birmingham before my flight leaves and thought about finding a room.

The problem with specialist lists is that the businesses (or customers) have to see some value in keeping them up to date because those special list keepers have few resources themselves. Most pool halls have no idea that such lists exist.

On the other hand, Google is in the business of keeping the info up-to-date, and provides a review mechanism that it promotes a lot.

to help revive a worthwhile thread many are interested in and some not who dont have to click it.

my idea of the best poolrooms are ones with good tables, and have a population of players and spectators with personalities to have an entertaining place to hang out. along with plenty of gambling to watch and participate in.
all the other places with just tables to play on are equally boring.
