Hello everyone,

I want to slick things up a bit. When I look at the online retailers I see 30+ different products. I don't want to sand the shaft. I was thinking about this one

Thanks in advance!

93% alcohol works wonders if you use it right from the beggining. i have used a few shaft intended cleaners, the only one that worked was Q clean. however, it does wet the shaft so you will have to sand afterwards.

Try Bona hardwood floor cleaner. Spray some on a clean white 100% cotton cloth and clean the shaft. Then burnish with leather. you can buy it at a better grocery story or a flooring place that seels hardwood flooring.

Keep your Hands Clean and Dry, with a Towel, and or piece of Babby Flannel, and your Shaft will stay cleaner.

Shaft cleaner

I personally use Q clean and it works great. I make a paste with the Q clean and a little bit of water. Wipe down the shaft until the chalk comes off then dry. I then seal and burnish with 1500 followed by 3M lapping film. Voila!

I would definitely check out Magic Eraser as well. Based on reputation alone there are lots of players on here that swear by it.

smart wipes, both cleaner and polisher. super good stuff really. and that comes from someone who didn't believe in nothing but leave it be.

and their customer service is prime would you ever need them.

Well that stuff looks alright, but these guys are right, there are a lot of threads on this already, just do a search for shaft cleaning. When I was just starting out, I wasted a lot of money on all those specially made shaft cleaners as well, but what I found out was, you really don't need all that stuff. Everybody knows that sanding is bad, and will over time reduce the diameter of your shafts. So there are two very effective alternatives that I know of that work extremely well. One is the magic eraser, and you use it with alcohol, not water. The first time I used it I was like "oh my god! these guys weren't kidding! this stuff is awesome!". Another method that is cheap and works well is soft scrub believe it or not. Both methods are good, and have approximately the same results. Now of course you're going to have to burnish afterwards, and this can be done with either a piece of leather, or a very fine grit 800-2000 of sand paper. Keep in mind that if you really take care of your shafts you shouldn't have to use either of these methods hardly ever. I like to go over my shafts with a q-wiz every now and then if I feel them losing their slickness at all, and then maybe some slipstic, or q-silk. I did a search myself and came across and interesting post. It's number 7.

Don't use Q clean, they use bleach in Q clean, it will damage your shaft.

I haven't use alcohol yet, but I'm gonna try Pure Alcohol 96%.

I would prefer to buy something designed specifically for cleaning a shaft.

You won't find anything better than the Magic Eraser. For $2 you get two of them - it should last you a while - and it will clean you shafts to where they look as good as new.

Or you could just not worry about it, as it is doing no harm.... where as all the "cleaning methods" hold possibilities for damage.

You asked what is best. The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser dampened with alcohol is the best. Follow with just a few swipes with 1000 grit and then burnish with leather. No damage, very clean, minimal work.
