Best Teen Pool Player Ever

I know Allen Hopkins played a little sporty as a teen. Did'nt he win the 14.1 and 9-ball crowns while 19?.......Gerry

While on the subject, when I worked at The cue corner in Pa. back around 90/92, Pete Sinkler Sponsored the junior 9-ball championships. One year "The Carolina crew" as we called them came up with Chan Witt, Coletrain, and a couple others that played absolutely JAM UP. Thier ability at a young age was very impressive, let alone they would gamble with anyone for anything.......Gerry

Lil Jon and Lil Robbie were the two toughest teens I have ever seen play. This was back at Stonewall when Robbie was like 14 and LJ was like 13. Funny thing was LJ was a better shooter...and bet...man them two little kids had more gamble than 90% of the adults I have met...I was like..."where the hell do kids get this kinda money?"...Robbie was the mouth and LJ was the stroker.

There is no doubt who was the best teen: Kid Cole Dixon....period.

I met a sports writer for a magazine in the early 70s and he said he saw Cole in Florida come into a bar in Florida at the age of 17, bare feet and all, to play a group of people for $100 per game. After realing off 13 straight racks of nineball, they threw in the towell.

Just think. At this early age Kid was roaming the country hustling his ass off, and with the best of the best.
Cole Dickson's got my vote too.

Keith McCready was the top bar table player on earth when he was 14 years old. Got kicked out of school for having over $30K cash on him and that was just his end.

Restricting my choice to those I saw play as teenagers, I'll go with Allen Hopkins and Jean Balukas.

Honorable Mention:
Jasmin Ouschan has already won the gold medal at the World Games in 9-ball and has won at the European Championships. She's still a teen!

Just curious as to who people think has been the best teenage player in the USA going back 30 years let's say.

I would cast my vote for Shannon Daulton, who won the Legends of One Pocket against a stacked field (and Mizerak in the finals) at the age of 19. Most teenagers can't even play one pocket. And one pocket wasn't even his best game -- his best game was banks.
Fast Sammy Guzman... he use to pal around with Tony Robles when West End pool hall in NJ was hot.... top players would go fo coffee when he was looking for action.... pure talant....split the pocket from anywhere at 100 mph....Sammy passed away at a young age,,,

Fine player. I played him many times. Remembered for his 9-ball, but he also won the World Junior 14.1 Championships (1983?). Gone but not forgotten.

Good evening all-

Since we're kind of on the subject, didn't Sigel supposedly drive a Porsche paid for with gambling winnings when he was 16 or 17?

I know I've always heard that...although that doesn't necessarily mean anything. I just thought someone out there might be able to shed some light on the subject for me.

Thanks!

Kirk Stevens

Since we have heard a lot of snooker lately.......anybody out there ever get the pleasure to watch Kirk Stevens play for $1000 a set when he 17-18..............pounded in long reds to set up a run , like he was playin for a beer.

> Someone mentioned a story about Sigel driving a Porsche as a teenager. I never heard that,at least not about Sigel, although his high run of 339 came at 19. Pete Horne from North Carolina told me and a friend that he was Earl's best friend as a kid,and said that they left on Friday afternoon with 300 between them, and by the time they got to school Monday morning, they had 4500 each. He also said that about the time Earl quit school,he went and got his license and bought his first car, which was a Ferrari 308 GTS,the Magnum P.I. model. This doesn't surprise me at all,in the 10 or so times I've seen him in a parking lot somewhere,he's either had a Jag or a Boxster. He seems to have pretty good taste in cars. Tommy D.
